New Game Releases: March 12th-18th, 2015

The Awakened Fate Ultimatum
While the Resident Evil series has always contained head-scratching puzzles, up to now they’ve been in-game. With the release of both Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Complete Edition and Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Complete Season, identifying the difference between these two similarly titled releases might be the episodic series’ biggest enigma (spoiler: the former contains the Raid Mode Throwback Map Pack and the Character Costume Pack). Fortunately, the remainder of this week’s new games aren’t quite as confusing, save for Battlefield Hardline’s trifecta of SKUs.

Robert’s Pick: With an oeuvre which includes captivating franchises such as Fire Emblem and Advance Wars games Intelligent Systems is one of my favorite second-party developers. With the release of Code Name S.T.E.A.M. the Kyoto-based studio looks to preserve that prized status, with a game that blends turn-based tactics with the low-slung perspective of a third-person shooter. While I wish they’d kept the original, more playful moniker of Lincoln vs Aliens, a title change isn’t going to affect Code Name S.T.E.A.M.’s absorbing gameplay which draws inspiration Valkyria Chronicles. Now, I just have to find those elusive Ike and Marth Amiibos to unlock the corresponding characters in-game.

Gonçalo’s Pick:
Despite Atelier Shallie having launched last week, it seems the flow of JRPGs on the PS3 is starting to dwindle. Luckily, this week, players who have yet to acquire newer consoles can now enjoy The Awakened Fate Ultimatum. As a predecessor to last year’s The Guided Fate Paradox, players can expect the same style of Rogue-like dungeon crawling experience, something which I wouldn’t mind seeing more of on the PS4.

  1. I think the biggest puzzle is the appearance of a $15 Kinect game that’s based on a 99 cent app.

    • Wasn’t the original one $5? $15 seems like a lot of money for Fruit Ninja.

      • I feel bad for developers who were making Kinect games when MS dropped the hardware from their core system. Hopefully, they’ll bounce back and not be hurt too much.

  2. If you like shmups, give Jamestown+ a try. The original is one of my favorites.

  3. After the whole BF4 disaster, I wonder how people people are buying Battlefield Hardline on day one.

    • Just fools.

For any online game, consumers should wait the first week. Usually, it’s more fun that frustrating as they’re working the kinks out.

  4. I’m thinking about picking up Code Name S.T.E.A.M. on my way home from work today.

  5. I’m surprised that Robert didn’t pick The Awakened Fate Ultimatum. It is a NIS game after all.

  6. Who is their right mind names two editions “Complete Edition” and “Complete Season”. Capcom needs to stop letting their employees sniff glue.

  7. I like to play Don’t Touch Anything Red when the GF is on her period.

  8. Code Name S.T.E.A.M. looks cool and all, but it’s getting 6.5ed all over the place. It’s short and there’s no reply value.

How does that happen in 2015.

  9. Why is Tennis Elbow 2013 coming out in 2015???

    • I had a bad case of fappers wrist back in 2013.

      • Way, way, more information than we need to know.

In other news, The Awakened Fate Ultimatum is in route.

    • It’s been around for a while and received some acclaim. It’s coming to Steam now, so that’s why the name.

Maybe they should have made a few changed and updated the title. Right now it sounds like a parody tennis game.
