New Game Releases: February 11th-17th, 2016

Project X Zone 2

Who knew February was National Tactical Role-Playing Appreciation Month? Between the releases of Rainbow Moon and Project X Zone 2, as well as Fire Emblem Fates on the 19th, there’s a ton of grid-based battling across the shortest month of the year.  Fortunately, for those who prefer the gratification of real-time contentiousness, titles like Street Fighter V and Rocket League are at the ready.

Robert’s Pick: PC owners who never got a chance to enjoy Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc are all out of excuses, as the eccentric murder mystery title makes its way onto Steam this week. If you evaded getting into visual novels, this well-paced entry is packed with surprises, making it an ideal gateway into the medium. If you’re still on the fence, check out our spoiler-free interview with creator Kodaka Kazutaka, who provides some insight into the game’s creation.

Danganronpa Trigger Happy Havoc (2)

Gonçalo’s Pick: Project X Zone features a concept we’d love to have seen during the 16-bit days but never got; a cross-over between some of gaming’s biggest icons from different developers including Nintendo, Capcom and my personal favorite, Sega.

The fact this game exists, even today, is nothing short of a miracle and it seems good things come in pairs because we’re now getting a sequel and I can’t wait for more reference-heavy, tactical turn-based RPG goodness with Project X Zone 2.

  1. Robert, February is also Black History Month.

  2. On the serious tip (remember that) I’ll probably get Project X Zone 2. Love the combat. It’s not all geeky grids. It feels like a brawler!

  3. Big Brain Academy?

Whatever happened to the “brain training” craze?

  4. Spakoyno: Back to the USSR 2.0 doesn’t have a price.

  5. Game that best describes my sex life: Nuts! The Battle of the Bulge

  6. Hasn’t Cat Simulator been out for a long time already?

  7. Danganronpa for me this week!

  8. So Street Fighter V for xbots, huh? What the hell is MS’s gameplan these days?

  9. Microsoft Glass

    TVTVTV

    Always Online

    Power of the Cloud

    Kinect

Not enough HP to drive 1080p 60 fps games when 1080p is the benchmark for TVs.

Microsoft never knows what the fuck they are going. One failure after another.

Disagree? How many of you are using your Xbox One to tweet, update FB, or listen to Pandora?

    • Don’t get me started. I’ve just gone through 3 Surface 4s trying to find one that isn’t defective. Really hate MS right now.

      • I’m right there with you.

I bought so many 360s (they RRODed before the big issue came to light) that they should give me a free Xbone. I swear I’d never BUY another Microsoft product.

        Good thing W10 was free.

  10. Pft. Just bought Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc during the big PSN sale in January. Knowing me I will probably buy it again just to have it in my Steam library… just like I did with the Neptuna games =/

  11. How come I don’t win anything from the trivia on the right side?

  12. I had a lot of fun with the first Project X Zone, so I’m ready for the sequel.

  13. I hope you review RPG Tycoon, since I always like reading your rpg reviews.

  14. Is Rainbow Moon cross-buy?

  15. Still on the fence with Fire Emblem. There’s conflicting reports about how much was changed with the US version.

Kotaku said the face touching was taken out, other sites say it was moved and now you wake up characters.

  16. I can’t believe more people aren’t picking up SFV. I’m so excited for it.

  17. God this site is so weebed out. More technology review, less purple haired underage girls please.
