New Releases for the Week of June 24th, 2012

Battlefield 3 Close QuartersSo, maybe Battlefield 3: Close Quarters isn’t exactly a new experience. After all, PlayStation 3 owners who ponied up fifty dollars for the game’s premium plan have been enjoying the expansion pack since June 4th, while an exclusivity deal with Sony meant that PS3 players who didn’t make the purchase still had access to new multiplayer maps last week. In short, know two things: Xbox 360 and PC owners get a crack at the content this week and that we are just as confused as you are. Whatever happened to simple, easy-to-remember publishing dates like Mortal Monday?

DesertEagle’s Pick: Long before the Tony Hawk series got bogged down with insipid plastic skateboards that attempted to simulate the actual sport, the series was about pulling over impossible tricks and racking up outrageous scores. As the inaugural entry in Xbox Live’s Summer of Arcade promotion, Pro Skater HD just might be the redemption that Tony Hawk: Ride and Tony Hawk: Shred developer Robomodo desperately needs.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I loved the first 2 Spider-Man games on the PlayStation. Watching that series go downhill has been one of my greatest disappointments. By the time Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time hit the shelves, I had pretty much given up on web-slinging in general. Yet something about The Amazing Spider-Man has me intrigued. Maybe it’s just been too long since I threw on a blue and red jumper, but I’m pretty excited for it. Maybe I won’t be disappointed when I play this one. Maybe a unicorn will give me a high five.

The Amazing Spider-Man

BlueSwim’s Pick: Everyone knows that I’m usually the first person to call out DLC, but with the Dawnguard expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, I’ve got to give it my blessing. Why? Because Skyrim justified its price-tag by throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, into the retail game. I’ll spare DLC rant number 7,842 and simply close by saying that Skyrim‘s first expansion should be a good one.

  1. I’m interested in Unchained Blades, but until I’m absolutely certain I can play it on my Vita, I won’t be buying it.

  2. Never got around to playing Spec Ops: The Line the demo. That’s what I’ll be playing this week.

  3. The “One click to Roman Orgy” ad is more interesting that anything I see on this list. 😉

  4. I sure hope the RE: Chronicles HD Collection gets a healthy PS+discount.

  5. I’ve been waiting for Spider-Man for a long time now. Glad to see they went back to an open world game.

  6. Amazing Spider-Man is about the only thing that interests me, but not $60 worth.

  7. I’d play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD if it were $10. $15 is too much. For that price, I’d just as soon dig up my old copies of the games.

  8. I’m curious in hearing what Dawnguard brings to Skyrim. Anyone else think they should have brought the DLC a bit sooner?

    • I think it’s timed well. I was done with Skyrim months ago, but now that there is an expansion, I might pick it back up. If they had released it while I was still playing, I would have been overwhelmed and skipped it.

      • Maybe he mean people have traded Skyrim in. My local games stores are filled with used copies.

        • I don’t think the folks that traded in Skyrim are the same people that are chomping at the bit for an expansion.

          • I couldn’t resist getting $45 for Skyrim. I do regret trading it in because I got Lollipop Chainsaw. In a sucker.

          • “I was done with Skyrim months ago, but now that there is an expansion, I might pick it back up”.

Sound like you’re one of the bit-chompers! 😉

Didn’t you have a problem with all the glitches?

  9. Spec Ops: The Line, but not before a price drop.

  10. For Sean:

High five on the Spidey front!

  11. Nothing for me this week.

  12. SPEC-OPS demo kicked ass. Definitely gonna pick it up.

  13. Sage, Blue, and Jeremy yell in unison, “Legends of Pegasus. It’s got flying horses, for the love of god!”

  14. There better be a Just Dance review or in deleting my RSS Feed.

  15. Spec Ops demo was pretty fun. If the MP gets a nod, I might pick it up.

  16. I’m going for Spec Ops this week!

  17. When Blue is picking DLC, something strange is afoot.

  18. if only The Amazing Spider-Man included movie bucks, then I’d bite.

  19. I’ll be web slinging after work today. And no, I’m not building my site.

  20. Is it me or did the price of Marvel Pinball 3D go up a dollar?

I thought the tables were going to be downloaded from inside Zen pin…

  21. Why the hell didn’t you guys review Lollipop Chainsaw?

  22. Yeah, seems strange that there’s no review. I’m going to wait for it to drop now, but still a review would have been cool to read.

    • Maybe the review is still coming. I dunno.

      • Sorry, I didn’t ask for it nor did I get it in. Asked for DiRT: Showdown, still no sign of that one.

        • That’s a shame. Do publishers ever tell you why they don’t send games?

BTW- Your review has to better than this one:

          “Succint arcade handling”. Nuff said?

        • From the demo it seemed like it was too simplified and too arcadey.

        • Why didn’t you even ask for it? If you know it’s going to be bad, then we still deserve to know, right? Why are you keeping us in the dark?

        • Thats a problem for a review site. if you only review the good games, then you’re not telling people about games to stay away from. I’m not saying Lollipop Chainsaw was bad, but I come here to read your opinions on games that are a little bit on the weird side.
