New Game Releases: May 30th-June 5th, 2014

Mario Kart 8 (1)

With titles such as Mario Kart 8, Klonoa: Empire of Dreams, and Mega Man Xtreme 2 due, this week’s list of releases offers a number of familiar franchises. Most remarkable is the number of new properties, from Nintendo’s Tomodachi Life, Murdered: Soul Suspect, to Carbine Studios’ (a developer founded by seventeen ex-Blizzard employees) upstart MMO, WildStar. Naturally, the bulk of parvenus can be found on PC, with personalities Like Pixel Boy and Aban Hawkins competing for player’s discretionary dollars.

Robert’s Pick: While Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection might not live up to its lofty moniker, the game’s premise of guidingNeptune, Noire, Blanc and Vert into idol careers offering a nice change of pace from the main franchise. Franchise fans will surely appreciate extra like being able to turn your Vita into an alarm clock, so one of the CPUs can rouse you from slumber. As amusing as that amenity might be, I can’t really put the title in front of Mario Kart 8. Seeing Bowser and the bunch rendered in 720p at sixty frames per second is unquestionably compelling, but when Club Nintendo throws in a free digital game, I’ll be setting 150cc speed records in route to my local store.

Mario Kart 8 (2)

Gonçalo’s Pick: Even a week after release, it seems Watch Dogs continues to steal media attention away from most other releases. A shame considering how unique Murdered: Soul Suspect is shaping up. Co-developed by Airtight games and Square Enix Japan, it tells the story of a detective turned ghost who roams the streets trying to solve his own murder. The premise alone is extremely original and risky by AAA standards and one I hope pays off  for everyone involved.

  1. Mario Kart 8 this week. My Wii U is dusted and ready for it. Don’t make me wait any longer UPS.

  2. Sadistic Symphony

I see a whole helluva lot of Murdered: Soul Suspect and have never even heard of the game.

    • Yeah, that one is a mystery. I haven’t heard a single thing about it until now.

  3. Sadistic Symphony

Empire of Dreams is the single Klonoa game I haven’t played.

(and it’s a GBA game, so that that price I’ll pass)

  4. I was going to get Tomodachi Life but then I found my waifu won’t be able to hook up with my backup wiafu. 😉

  5. Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection is on my wish list.

  6. Mario Kart 8 for me. Can’t wait to play it.

  7. I bought Ittle Dew through a bundle. Fun little game.

  8. On Steam, 1001 Spikes is $9.99 is you own any other Nicalis games.

  9. I’m hearing a lot of good things about Mario Kart 8. Maybe it’s time to break down and get a Wii U. Between NSMBU, Sonic Lost World, W101, and Pikmin 3, there’s enough games to really tempt me.

  10. Waffles for Supper

I’ll give War Thunder a download, maybe even drop a few bucks on it. Warframe was solid.

  11. The Jogging Dead

Forgot IGNs 4.0, I’m picking up Hyperdimension Neptunia: PP. Don’t know why they always lowball JRPGs.

  12. Tell SeanNOLA he needs to cover the PS Vita pets game. I remember he went all crazy over Invisimals.

  13. Im slightly interested in HN:PP. Awaiting your review Robert, don’t disappoint me.
