New Game Releases: May 25th-31st, 2017

Once Capcom was a power player in the industry, creating beloved franchises like Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Monster Hunter. These days the publisher seems to habitually stumble, whether it’s a glaring misspelling on the side of the Resident Evil: Revelations box, Street Fighter V’s regrettable launch, or almost everything about Umbrella Corps. This week, Capcom is dangling a forty-dollar iteration of 1994’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo, hoping that giddy Switch owners will pay the premium, reversing their fortunes.

Robert’s Pick: Yes, NEKOPARA Vol. 3 visual treats are absolutely purr-fect, earning an obligatory playthrough this week, but it’s the third iteration of Xrd that I’ll be clawing for. For veterans, there’s two new characters and six years’ worth of tuning, while the title offers one of the best tutorials around for newcomers. Don’t get me wrong, Super Street Fighter II Turbo offers an enticing rendezvous but it’s no match for the visual spectacle and sophistication of Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2.

  1. Looks at Star Trek: Bridge Crew….

$50 for a “VR experince”. No wonder why VR isn’t selling well. And before anyone asks me “have you tried PS VR”. Yes, I have. It was OK, although the tracking was annoying. Sure, I’d get in if it was $100 dollars but it’s not a $400+$50 for each game I want to play experience for me.

  2. Drone Fight arrived too late. Now it should be Spinner Fight.

  3. Ultra Street Fighter II should be $20 not 40.

    • Maybe even less. It’s 20 years old and there’s NeoGeo fighting games this week that are 8 bucks.

  4. I’m curious how Friday the 13th: The Game will turn out. Not enough to buy the game, but enough to read a review and/or watch a Let’s Play.

Shame they didn’t have SP ready at launch.

  5. Have Lock’s Quest on order.

    • I remember owning the DS game. It was one of the few TD games for it and I played it often. Have to look into the PS4 remake.

  6. Where’s the Nekopara review??!!

  7. Is Kung Fury: Street Rage cross-buy?

  8. Superhot VR seems like the first VR game I’d care about.
