New Game Releases: March 3rd-9th, 2016

Momodora Header

After a string of either critical or commercial disappoints ranging from The Crew, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and even Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft is looking for a hit. This week’s release of The Division just might bring success- but many players are wondering about the quality of single player firefights in a game that’s been designed around online cooperative parties. For those insistent on solitary experiences, Nintendo’s release of three SNES games for the 3DS is poised to please, assuming you’re not peeved by the publisher’s lack of cross buy support.

Robert’s Pick: Fans of heart-wrenchingly difficult, but never unfair retro platformers like Volgarr the Viking or Maldita Castilla might want to check out Bombservices’s Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight. As the fourth game in the series (you can check out the first two games here), Reverie offers larger, more expressed sprites as well as polished play mechanics that subtlety recall the platforming goodness of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Sure, Toru Hagihara and IGA magnum opus still inspires a wealth of platformers, but Bombservice’s latest effort is one that shouldn’t be missed.

Gonçalo’s Pick: Over the past few years, I have largely fallen out of out of love with adventure games. I often feel too many modern entries try to replicate the LucasArts formula instead of creating their own or even drawing inspiration from its contemporaries and as a result, recent attempts are a bit same-y for my taste. With that said, hearing The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça & Pizzaboy, one of my favorite independent comic books was receiving point-and-click style adventure game, piqued my interest.

The graphic novel features an appealing art-style, engaging characters, and a raunchy, often tongue-and-cheek humor filled with 80s references. Besides, any universe that stars demons, zombies, ghosts and Nazis as the main antagonists has to make for an interesting game, right?

  1. It’s amazing that that make games with cute little lolis EVERY week.

  2. Cory in the Outhouse

The Division will tank, the SP will suck, and Ubi will make more AC games.

Some things in life are certain.

  3. I’ll pick up the Tom Clancy’s The Division on PC when it drops to $25. No way should anyone pay $100.

I hope that at least includes the levels they showed at e3 but took out.

  4. Just like when I was a kid, I’m staying away from Division.

    (Might ADD Twilight Princess though).

  5. I used to love Nintendo but it seems like they’re so out of tune with what gamers expect these days.

  6. Emulation on my phone just saved me $24. Go me.

  7. I’m curious if E.T. Armies is about little aliens in bike baskets shooting the shit out of each other.

  8. Seems like EA and Activision aren’t doing well either. Both had bad years and canceled their E3 showings.

  9. Robert, are you messing with us or is Panzermadels: Tank Dating Simulator a real thing?

  10. You should post this video instead of a pic for Momodora. Just a suggestion!

  11. I’m holding out on The Division until third parties say the SP is fun. So far the only one to chime in is Ubi, and of course they’re going to say nice things.

  12. Attacking giant boobs seems like a decent way to spend $9.

  13. Wonder if Lacrosse is going to be a $60 game. God I hope not.

  14. I hope you review Chasing Dead for Wii U. Looks pretty good.

  15. The Division looks like a “wait for $32 with GCU” situation.

You might want to indicate that the SNES games only play on the New 3DS. Which reall sucks.

  17. Haven’t bought a Ubi game since Unity. All this MP focused stuff isn’t for me.
