New Game Releases: March 2nd-8th, 2017

With a constrained number of new game releases for prevailing consoles and portables, this week’s schedule of offerings is dominated with the launch of the Nintendo Switch. Pleasingly, there are a number of remarkable efforts beyond the obligatory purchase of Breath of the Wild. Shin’en Multimedia’s FAST RMX crams thirty courses, forty-seven music tracks, and fifteen tracks into a download that’s less than a gigabyte. Meanwhile, Yacht Club Games brings Specter of Torment either as a budget-priced standalone title or bundled into Treasure Trove’s trio of action-platforming episodes.

Robert’s Pick: Woefully, docked and portable framerates are one of the main discussion points surrounding The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s launch. That really shouldn’t be the case. Instead, Fujibayashi-san and company and company have crafted an astonishingly involving effort that melds open-world autonomy along with the sense of progression and discovery that the thirty-two year-old series is known for. Even if you’re not a fan of the franchise, Breath of the Wild is a compulsory pick-up for new Switch owners.

  1. Right now, I’m suffering from Switch preorder regret. I wait too long the day after the Nintendo Direct. Now, I tried to get one and every place is sold out.

And I sold my Wii U so no BotW for me anytime soon.

    • Don’t worry about it.

      No browser.
      Can’t move save files.
      Joycon disconnects.

You really don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars to be a beta-tester for Nintendo.

  2. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for Pee Cee? If I can get it for a decent price, I’ll be grabbing it.

  3. I feel myself leaning toward Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This would be the third time I have bought the game.

  4. System launches are just ways to sell old ports at full retail prices.

    Switch can suck it.

    • True. And there’s always the options to wait. Prices always come down. That’s what I’m doing with the Switch.

  5. How dare you forget Nier: Automata!

  6. I hope you review the Switch console and games.

Your tech reviews are pretty much on point and detailed. I want to know what’s a rumor and what’s real.
