New Game Releases: March 10th-16th, 2016

Deathsmiles

Remember that halcyon era when handing over a healthy sum for a deluxe edition meant going home, carefully removing the shrink wrap from the case, and playing the game until completion? Well, Agent 47 has his sights on killing that experience. Purchase Hitman’s Collector’s Edition this week and you’ll get the requisite tchotchkes– from a moderately cool statue to a throwaway red tie and clip set. But one thing you won’t be able to do is enjoy Hitman in its entirety, as the game is taking an episodic approach, with a slow drip feed of content throughout the year. To add insult, at least one part of the game- the Elusive Target, will only be available for a 48-hour window, before disappearing forever.

Robert’s Pick: As price drops for first-party Nintendo games are remarkably rare, it would be hard not to recommend picking up almost any of these titles. But having played almost all those releases, I’m really excited by the prospect Deathsmiles’ PC port. Solid shooting mechanics coupled with lovely loligoth visuals have made this one of my favorite Xbox 360 STGs. Being able to give Windia and the girls a permanent spot on my hard drive is something I’ve been waiting a long time for.

Gonçalo’s Pick: PC gaming has been a host to a slew of Western and Japanese shmups over the last few years, creating a moderate genre resurgence. With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Cave’s loli-shmup bonanza, Deathsmiles is the platform’s newest STG entry. It’s a bit of a late port, sure, but considering the Xbox 360 version is one of my favorite games on Microsoft’s console, I have very little reason to complain.

About Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Love this weeks picture!

  2. How I would have though you’d be all over Hitman Robert. Isn’t that where your avatar is from?

  3. I had no idea Deathsmiles was coming out for PC.

This is a cause for celebration!

  4. For anyone thinking about picking up the Nintendo games- you can get them for $16 either at Best Best (with the GCU) or through Amazon if you have Prime.

  5. I’m getting Super Mario Galaxy 2 for sure. The first is easily obtained right?

    • Yes, I picked it up a few months ago at Wal-Mart for $15.88. I think think they’re are plenty of copies floating around.

  6. Hitman marketing sounds awful. What is the other episodes suck? You’ve already given them you’re money and because its digital you can sell it anyway.

  7. Part of me awaits the day when there’s no lolis to pose in the new release pic. What will you do?

I hope it doesn’t happen, but I wonder what will go down when it does.

  8. Wait, WWE 2K16 is just coming out for PC this week. Why is the Master Race so slow?

  9. I’ll be getting Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D this weekend. Always want to play it and I can’t resist for $16.

  10. Deathsmiles review, please.

  11. I am waiting for your Samurai Warriors 4: Empires review. Don’t make me wait, dood!

  12. Can someone point me to more info on Aegis of Earth: Protonovus Assault ?

  13. Someone made a Gremlins game? Yes.

  14. So I bought Hitman after spending a few minutes researching the publication method (dumb, just give me the whole game at once).

Here’s the thing though, the online DRM is horrible. Experience a single hiccup in your connection and the game sends you back to the menu screen.

WAIT UNTIL THEY FIX THIS SHIT BEFORE EVEN THINKING ABOUT BUYING.

  15. How did the hell did Senran Kagura not get picked?
