New Game Releases: October 21st-27th, 2016

It’s seems like just yesterday, when we received the original Just Dance and suffered through its spotty movement recognition and its unsightly Day-Glo character models. Little did we know the title would become a smash hit, inspiring a succession of annual updates for the next seven years. This week, the Dance train hustles along, making stops at almost every console along the way. If grooving isn’t your thing, the schedule of new game releases offers gunning via Battlefield 1 and even a bit of growing, with Farm Simulator 17 bearing its fruit on Xbox Ones.

Robert’s Pick: At worst, a Firaxis Games misfire is still more interesting than most of the output from the industry. Slight misfire like Civilization: Beyond Earth or Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol, might have been too derivative and simple, but they were still compelling enough to sink hours into. But when the studio produces a hit, like they did with SimGolf, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, and the bulk of the core Civilization series, they craft simulations that are sublime. They are the type of experiences that embezzle sleeping hours and occupy our minds during the work day. Sure, I have an armful of review code, but you can be sure I’ll make time for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, slumber be damned.

  1. Did they fix the issues with the PS4 version of Battlefield 1 ? I’m not committing until I hear all that stuff is ironed yet.

  2. How the hell did Super Destronaut 2: Go Duck Yourself not get the pick of the decade?

  3. Picking on Just Dance is like fighting with the special kids. You need to pick a worthy target. 😉

  4. Looking over new releases

    sees ‘Porn Studio Tycoon’

    Checking Steam balance……

  5. Does Sid Meier actually work/consult on the Civilization games anymore? Or is he like Tom Clancy and puts his name on it even after death?

  6. You might want to mention that if you own SteamWorld Dig you get additional savings on SteamWorld Heist.
