New Game Releases: October 19th-25th, 2017

Every late October, there’s a rather peculiar occurrence. No, not the trick-or-treaters who show up on your doorstep after 9:00 PM. Ever odder is the near-simultaneous appearance of titles that the mainstream gaming press largely ignores, but seem to have a following. Such explains this week’s release of Rugby 18, Deer Hunter Reloaded, Rapala Pro Fishing, as well as oddities like Hidden Agenda, Knowledge is Power, That’s You, which attempt to create the social settings typically reserved for board game night. For gamers with no interest in these kinds of recreation, fear not, the next seven days also bring a number of more convention titles like Fire Emblem Warriors and Destiny 2 for PC owners.

Robert’s Pick: Let’s pretend that the Tom Cruise Mummy reboot didn’t happen. Because any negative association you might have with the IP could cause you to miss one of the better Metroidvania games of the past few years. This week’s release of The Mummy Demastered for Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC shows WayForward (Shantae, Aliens Infestation) working within their wheelhouse. With exploration that feels culled from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, weapons that suggest the arsenal of Contra, and scads of pixelated, two-dimensional art, Mummy is pure beast-blasting bricolage with top-tier execution.

  1. Deer Hunter Reloaded is based on the movie, right?

    😉

  2. I can’t believe people haven’t got tired of the stupid day-glo dancing game (Just Dance). Its not dancing, it’s bad cheerleading.

    • Youtuber’s here an idea for you: show someone doing Just Dance moves at a actual club. Send half of your rev share my way.

  3. Any deals on Destiny 2? From what I heard the long game isn’t there so I don’t want to pay full price.

  4. Buyer beware– I wouldn’t recommend JYDGE. I bought Neon Chrome (same engine, coding, assets) and it runs like crap on Switch.

  5. Are you sure Singstar: Celebration is coming to the US?

  6. A bunch of games I’ve either never heard of or don’t care about.

  7. I think I might buy Fire Emblem Warriors to celebrate the demise of NeoGAF.

(There were probably good people on there, but being banning for having a difference of opinion, while keeping it professional? Not sad to see them go).

  8. Where’s Wolfenstein II?
