New Game Releases: October 19th-25th, 2017

Every late October, there’s a rather peculiar occurrence. No, not the trick-or-treaters who show up on your doorstep after 9:00 PM. Ever odder is the near-simultaneous appearance of titles that the mainstream gaming press largely ignores, but seem to have a following. Such explains this week’s release of Rugby 18, Deer Hunter Reloaded, Rapala Pro Fishing, as well as oddities like Hidden Agenda, Knowledge is Power, That’s You, which attempt to create the social settings typically reserved for board game night. For gamers with no interest in these kinds of recreation, fear not, the next seven days also bring a number of more convention titles like Fire Emblem Warriors and Destiny 2 for PC owners.

This week’s release of The Mummy Demastered for Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC shows WayForward (Shantae, Aliens Infestation) working within their wheelhouse. With exploration that feels culled from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, weapons that suggest the arsenal of Contra, and scads of pixelated, two-dimensional art, Mummy is pure beast-blasting bricolage with top-tier execution.
