New Game Releases: October 15th-21st, 2015

Tales of Zestiria

From the annual appearance of Ubisoft’s indefatigable cash-cow, Just Dance (and apparent mockbuster Let’s Sing), another iteration in the Tales series, and the reappearance of Final Fight and Yoshi, this week’s new game releases might not seem too distinctive. But what separate this week’s output from say, a release schedule in 2008, is the abundance of PC titles, with at least one longtime console franchise making the jump onto Windows-based hardware.

Robert’s Pick: As a twenty-year old franchise spanning sixteen main entries, the Tales series has been a consistent performer. Known for solid storylines, optional dialog sequence known as “skits”, as well as action-driven combat that deviates from genre convention, a Tales game is comfort food for the JRPG-craving soul. This week’s release of Tales of Zestiria the typical multi-course banquet, offering everything from a variant on the beloved Linear Motion Battle System, a plot that involves quashing a pestilence manifested by negative thoughts, to a 100+ song soundtrack crafted by Tales contributors Go Shiina and Motoi Sakuraba. Save for the lure of swimsuit, iDOLM@STER and Eva DLC costumes, Zestiria earns my full recommendation.

  1. I really want a Yarn Yoshi, but $16.99. Nintendo is gouging us.

  2. Someone need to post/link the Just Dance 2016 tracklist to remind me of how uncool and out of date I am.

  3. Where is that Corpse Party review? Stop slacking.

  4. Does Guitar Hero have backward compatibility on last-gen systems?

  5. “indefatigable cash-cow”

I wish you’d title your reviews like that and get brutal!

  6. Please tell me if the PC port of Tales of Zestiria is something to consider.

  7. Looks like s music game week, which is good for my wallet.

    • Mine too.

I feel like there’s not much to add to music games except more music. Don’t know why we need new versions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero, just give us DLC.

  8. Where’s the Code: Realize Guardian of Rebirth review. I was thinking about buying it, since I like visual novels.

  9. Hundred dollar games are killing me. Lego Dimensions and Guitar Hero I’m looking at you.
