Robert’s Pick: A few years ago, the aerial combat genre enjoyed a bit of popularity, thanks to titles like Crimson Skies, which translated frantic FPS action to airborne arenas. This week, Paris-based Ragequit Games hopes to reinvigorate the genre, with Strike Vector, an Unreal Engine-based title which undoubtedly delivers the eye candy. As for mechanics, the game’s VSTOL Vectors borrow a bit from Warhawk’s playbook, shifting between flight modes for fast dogfights and a hovering state that ideal for more precise shooting and zone defense. While the pledge of free future DLC certainly adds to the allure, Strike Vector’s only downside appears to be the lack of a single-player component.

Gonçalo’s Pick: Having never owned an 8-bit computer I spent many an afternoon playing on a friend’s ZX Spectrum. One of the games that consumed our afternoons was Tecmo’s (or Tehkan as they were known at the time) very own Bomb Jack! In it you play as a super-hero with the ability to leap and glide, and it’s up to you to collect every bomb in each stage. The gameplay was so simple and yet so addicting! These days some might feel the Bomb Jack series hasn’t aged well and they would probably be right. So I fully admit to be wearing the rosiest of nostalgia goggles by choosing the NES sequel Mighty Bomb Jack as my pick of the week.

  1. Why can’t I remember Life Force? It was a Gradius spin-off right?

  2. Robert’s gone PC for what three weeks straight now. 🙁

    • Nothing wrong with that. PC is just another gaming platform. A pick should be based on the quality of a game not what system it runs on.

    • Nothing wrong with PC gaming. In the long run it’s the way to go, because you can upgrade video cards, get better visuals, and keep your old games.

    • Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, $50 on Next-Gen or $8 on PC via Amazon.

Now let me know why consoles are superior,

I heard the Xbox One version of Tomb Raider Definitive Edition runs at 30 frames while the PS4 runs at 60. Glad I bought a PS4. 30 FPS isn’t “definitive” at all.

  4. Finally! Some next-gen games!

Too past its just an upscaled last gen game.

  5. OUYA games on the New Release list? But where are the iPhone/Android games?

  6. I might break down and pick up The Firemen 2: Pete & Danny and any good PSN sales as well.

  7. Ive yet to play a Dragon Ball Z game. Want to, though! Maybe I’ll pick up the last one if I can find it for less than $15.

  8. Just looked up a video for Strike Vector. It does look pretty nice. Hope the launch price is less than $15.

  9. Hopefully, I’ll get my Broken Age code this week! I KSed during the first round.

  10. What happened to Lara’s skin? it looks awful in that shot.

  11. I noticed the site fades in now. Very nice, looks quite professional!
