Web of the Dead: Surviving the Outbreak

Whether playing Resident Evil or watching a George A. Romero film, a poignant question inevitably comes to the players/viewers mind: ‘Could I survive a zombie infestation?” The people behind those insipid viral marketing campaigns for Axe body spray and Taco Bell redeem themselves with the Outbreak, a diversion perfectly suited for the web.

Like a cinematic choose-your-own adventure book, players make crucial decisions at two minute intervals. Should you find loose wood to board up the house from the flesh-hungry marauders, or simply move the furniture to block the entryways? The site works as a test of your decision making capabilities and your knowledge of zombie film lore. Sure, the interactive movie suffers from the trappings of most low budget fare, but it’s surprisingly tense and doesn’t skimp on the violence or language.

Let’s just hope the obligatory sequels don’t feature makeshift flamethrowers built from Axe cans, or hot sauce used to blind the undead hordes.
