The Video That Gamestop Doesn’t Want You to See

At
tech-gaming, we have a love/hate relationship with Gamestop. It’s quite handy to pick up a new release when the software retailer’s stores are nearly as ubiquitous as Starbucks. Their selection of games surpasses any other major retailer, and they often have promotions giving you an extra fifty percent on their (typically paltry) trade-in prices.

At the same time, we have a number of concerns with the chain. Employees are often indifferent; indicating customer service doesn’t seem to be a core value with the corporation. Their new game prices are habitually equal to or greater than the cost at other stores.

These and many more misgivings are explained in detailed in a YouTube by an alleged Gamestop stop employee who goes by the name of WhistleblowerZero. We suggest you watch the videos immediately; at least one clip has been yanked from circulation. Although we thought we had a proficient knowledge level of Gamestop’s business model, these insightful videos helped us understand the corporation’s motivations and policies.

  1. Why was the first video removed????

Every customer should know these things- thanx!

  2. Great video.

  3. I bet GS exec hate this video. I love it!

  4. Good stuff. I hate Gamestop, yet I continue to shop there. Maybe this video will give me what I need to break free.

  5. Sadly, I don’t think the typical customer I see in the store will have the patience to watch these.

  6. Do you think he currently this guys currently works at gamestop? He seems pretty bright, even for one of their managers.

  7. Someone should make a documentary on Lamstop.

  8. Lucky Number Steven

They’ll be dead in 10 years- Digital distribution will kill them.

  9. They ripped off Yahtzee!

  10. Great video. I also thought I knew it all about Gamestop. I went through three refurbed PSPs, those shadyass bastards.

  11. Blow my whistle- if you don’t like it don’t shop there. Simple as that. Stop yer whining people.

  12. So sad about the idea that we are the ones who test the used games for them.

  13. I bought a $50 production protection plan for my 360. When it red ringed, Gamestop informed me they stopped honoring their guarantee, and I had to send it in to Microsoft.

So basically, they stole 50 bucks from me. I hope they rot in hell.

  14. To be fair, Gamestop stopped selling what they call the PRP, but they were supposed to honor the existing contacts.

Call your DM about this- If you have your paperwork, they will refund the difference.

  15. No, they give you a refurbed model, and like the video says these are abused pieces of crap.

I went through a bunch of systems.

  16. Rapestop sucks

  17. C’mon, lets have an intelligent discussion here. This adds nothing.

Like the article said Gamestop is everywhere, and for many people that reason enough to like them. But along with that is some major problems. Personally, I would rather get my games at target or Wally World.

I hate when they open the games before you buy them new.

  18. Some major controversy here! Keep it up.

  19. What do you expect Gamestop is a corporation. Corporation make money at all costs.

  20. Love/hate relationship with Gamestop. That defines many a gamer.

  21. Some of you guys must work or love gamestop.

  22. wonderful info

  23. I’m not sure what to think about this. The guy obviously has some good points, but I haven’t had any real issues at any of my local stores. Of course I don’t trade items in very often, and I tend to only buy stuff when a decent coupon is released (i.e. 20% + 10% edge).

  24. A truly frightening look at the inside workings of GS.

As previously pointed out though, it is very possible to shop there on good terms if you wait for discounts/sales. I always check the condition of the disc first.

  25. It was clever how it was presented like Zero Punctuation, however, it was poorly presented. I understood the point of what he was trying to say, but his narration was so poorly enunciated that it presented itself more as a ranting than something witty yet informative.

  26. You have to love how the “new” games are sometimes scratched to hell, too. I understand that the inventory would be a huge shoplifting target if they didn’t remove the discs, and I do appreciate being able to read the case covers (as opposed to just viewing games in a display case). Still, would it kill them to take better care of these discs? They’re sometimes so bad that it’s very hard to believe that they are not actually used.

  27. Amen, brother!

I just bought the last copy of Mercenaries 3 and Spore. Mercenaries 3 has a good sized scratch. Spore had been registered once already. I spoke with the manager- Gamestop lets their employees check the games out.

  28. The recent FarCry2/GameStop exclusive preorder deal is a good example of why I get pissed at GS, and not because the offer is bad but because it’s instore only which the nearest GS store to me is an hour away.

I’m not driving an hour there and back plus spending gas $$ for something that they could sell online just as easily saving customers time & money.

  29. Unfortunately, Gamestop is the only store in my town that sells games. To go some where else, I would have to travel 15 miles. Gamestop is not that bad, but I do agree that there are better alternatives out there.

  30. I think people hate them because they are a large corporation like Mcdonalds or starbucks. I wish they were more small game stores in my area. (Houston)

  31. I lke Gamestop coupons and that is the only way I ever buy a used product from them. New games I buy from Amazon only. This video speaks the truth. If you dont like GS do not shop there.

  32. Interesting videos, the secrets are out…

  33. Yes, if you haven’t heard already, WhistleBlowerZero’s Youtube account has been SUSPENDED, mostly likely for the crime of giving a swift kick in the rear to GameStop. For all you lovers of free speech out there, his videos are available (for the time being) on gametrailers.com, as uploaded by daxter241, JohnRazor, and probably a few other people by now.
