New Releases 9/21 – 9/27: Deficit Spending Edition

With nearly sixty SKUs hitting store shelves, we are certain of two things- wallets will be emptied (or credit cards maxed), and console usage should dramatically increase this week. A week that includes Disgaea, LEGO Batman, and an expansion to Civ IV could single-handedly turn around the economy, or increase widespread relationship malaise. He certainly hope it’s the former.

Pick of the Week: Without question, this week is bringing some truly compelling titles to store shelves; selecting a single game would be futile. Lego Batman doesn’t look to radically change the brilliant formula set by Star Wars and Indiana Jones title. Wario Land: Shake It! appears to be a another strong entry in the Wii’s first party line-up, and a must have for fans of 2D action. THQ’s da Blob was the one game we couldn’t stop playing at E3; it was a wonderful mix of sound, color, and Katamari Damacy-inspired gameplay. We’ve been waiting for the retail release of this gem since July.

About Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. That’s a lot of games. I cant even look without getting excited.

  2. It may be easier picking out what I don’t want…

  3. Disgaea and Rhapsody are on their way!

  4. Wario Land! hell, yes.

  5. Well I don’t want 3-6th grade Brain Quest. or Barbie, or Nancy Drew.

  6. Is Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge trying to be a new version of Jagged Alliance?

  7. You guys really pimp da Blob.

  8. Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway. I loved the first two Xbox games.

  9. Lego Batman

  10. I thought we were getting a Pure review. I want to know if Pure or Baja is the way to go.

  11. Lego Batman defiantly

  12. Singstar Vol. 2 for me.

  13. I hope the Japanese coach game will help me play import games.

  14. No love for Buzz? I picked up the PS2 version for next to nothing, and it’s a great party game.

  15. My Little Pony: Pinkie Pie’s Party sounds x-rated.

  16. Lego Batman for the 360, to complete my collection.

  17. Lego Batman for the PC. I haven’t yet bought a console. Any recommendations from the gurus at tech-gaming?

  18. I have no money, but I must try Disgaea for the DS. I was completely into the PS2 version like nobodies business. Any other fans?

  19. If I can get a deal or at least a preorder bonus on Da Blob, I’m there.

  20. Kirby DS, I love the little pink guy.

  21. Rhapsody for the DS.

  22. Hell’s Highway is supposed to suck it, right?

  23. Great qaulity and amount of titles this week. I can’t wait to play some of these games, espically Lego Batman.

  24. For DS,

    Disgaea DS, Kirby

    For Wii

Warioland: Shake it! I can’t belive no one mentioned this yet!

  25. Wario Land could be great, but I hear it’s got no widescreen. What’s up with that?

  26. There’s plenty of games that get a ton of coverage, and there’s others that sadly have to rely on word of mouth.

All I can say, is that I played de Blob for about 40 minutes on the E3 floor; not many were interested in the game. I finally had to stop when another writer wanted a chance to enjoy the game.

Most games at E3, I played for about 5 or 10 minutes and could easily put the controller down, either because the experience was similar to something else or the game just wasn’t compelling. Not so with this one. That’s a good sign for me.

  27. On the E3 showfloor it was badly neglected, and I could see why.

Perhaps it was an old beta, but the game didn’t look very interesting. Besides destructible environments, this game didn’t seem to bring anything noteworthy to thew WWII action genre. Maybe I missed something, a longer play through would highlight.
