New Releases 9/13-9/19: Crowded With a Chance for Close Calls

Overheard at the local Gamestop, Part 3:

Clerk: “Are there any games you’re interesting in pre-ordering today?”
Customer: “Yeah, I probably want to get WET
Clerk (puzzled): “You mean you like water [based] games?”
Customer: “No, WET. The game where the girl gets blood in her eyes and the world goes all red”
Clerk: “That sounds like Ninja Gaiden Sigma II, but it’s actually a dude in ninja clothes. You have a PS3, right?”

DesertEagle’s Pick: Gamers seeking a healthy dose of originality should seek out Scribblenauts. Out of all the games on the E3 show floor, 5th Cell’s diversion was the one I didn’t want to stop playing. Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection satisfied my urge for the silver sphere when it hit the Wii; 360 and PS3 owners get three additional tables, making this the definitive collection for pinheads.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I’m going to let the readers in on a little secret: the Mario & Luigi games on the GBA and DS are some of the best RPGs ever made. If you haven’t played them yet, you’re in luck, because Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story promises to set the bar even higher.  It would be hard for me to suggest anything else as my #1 pick, but it bears repeating that Scribblenauts is one of the most imaginative and original games to see daylight in years, and it earns a surprisingly close second place.

TideGear’s Pick: The longer I write, the more I am fascinated by words. As writers, it’s no surprise that this week all three of us have mentioned Scribblenauts. Not only is it a game for the verbose, it’s a game for the imaginative; it looks to be unlike anything else. That’s my pick this week, and it was an easy one! By the way, if you don’t have Every Extend Extra Extreme, Rez HD and Lumines Live!, be sure to pick up Qubed! It contains all three games for $19.99 USD, a great deal to be sure.

  1. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, loved the first one.

  2. Wow, some games I might buy? Publishers, I though you forgot how to make these.

  3. Prank’d: Prank Your Way Around The World.

    Around the world?

    Really?

Finally, I can prank those Albanians!

  4. A clueless GS employee No way Don’t believe it.

Need for Speed: Shift is it’s good.

    WET demo sucked.

  5. Billy Mitchells Mama

NHL 10 or NHL 2K10. Which ever is better. I’m thinking NHL 10.

  6. I thought WET was ok, good mindless fun, nothing more. I might have to get it.

  7. MUA2 for me.

  8. How much is The Williams pinball disk?

  9. I’m flat-ass broke. No new games until October at least.

  10. Nice to see the PC getting stuff I’ve already beaten 😉

  11. MUA2, got to get my Civil War on.

  12. Heroes Over Europe if the metacritic is over 80 or so.

  13. Might have to go with Tide’s picks of the Scribblenauts and Qubed!

  14. NHL 10 will be better. Count on it.

  15. If you’ve never played a Majesty game, you’re missing out. Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is my pic.

  16. Scribblenauts gets a triple nod? Has that been done before?

  17. I hear that. My gaming budget is less than $60 a month now. I can’t even buy a game every 4 weeks now.

  18. I liked the first Marvel on a portable so maybe I’ll get MUA2 on PSP.

  19. You think Tornado Outbreak will sell well in the midwest?

  20. Don’t overlook Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. Like NOLA said, it’s one of the best RPGs on the DS.

  21. Just read the IGN review for Bowsers Inside Story and see an ad for R4 crads. Stay classy IGN!

  22. You know I think I’ve seen that.

  23. Scribblenauts sounds very col!

  24. Sorry, but NFS Shift seems like a step in the right direction for the game. I should have got a pick.

  25. Do you know if I have to buy MUA2 from Best Buy to get the Hulk? They offer him as an unlockable at that store.

  26. Scribble, Scribble, Scribblenauts!

  27. Just MUA2 for me. I hope they didn’t screw up the game, since I loved the first one.

  28. Whats the price for Batman on PC?

  29. I still need to get Dirt 2.

  30. So did the guy preorder NGS2?

I might just look at that Pinball game.

  31. I can afford two more games until Halloween. Lets hope Scribblenauts doesn’t let me down.

  32. Leaning toward Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story and Scribblenauts.
