New Releases 5/17-5/23: Cybernetic Grills Edition

Bo and Ulf Andersson might have a reason to smile this week. The brothers, who co-founded GRIN Studios, have two releases this week between Bionic Commando and Terminator Salivation. Which means their ominous logo is going to have two more gold teeth, and will likely be looking increasingly cybernetic. Quite fitting.

DesertEagle’s Pick: When the original Boom Blox was released, I played it until my arms and eyes were sore. The sequel presents over 400 levels, with variations that resemble miniature golf, shuffleboard, and Collapse. Sadly, the idea of having a score attack mode apparently never reached the developers ears. Maybe for the next go-round.

TideGear’s Pick: Oh, wow, it’s tough to pick this week! There’s a lot of promising lower-profile games coming out like Steal Princess, Jagged Alliance DS, Puchi Puchi Virus, and, yes, even the new Yu-Gi-Oh! spin-offs. Still, I’ve been quite excited about Bionic Commando for a while now, especially after playing Bionic Commando Rearmed. That’s my first pick. I have a feeling Steal Princess will steal my heart, though! I’m a total sucker for unique hybrid games. As for Punch-Out!!, it looks like a lot of fun but I’m not sure it will have too much replay value. Boom Blox Bash Party, however, looks to be a must have.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I have been itching to get my hands on Bionic Commando ever since I played through BC: Rearmed on PSN.  I am also tentatively excited about the Terminator Salvation game as I wait patiently to see Batman take on the cyborgs in the theater.  It’s hard to believe that a developer I had barely given a glance to 2 years ago seems to have a direct line to my wallet these days.

  1. I wonder of either of those GRiN games will be any good. They also made that really plain Wanted game.

  2. I know some will be interested in the Rock Band Classic Track Song Listing:

  3. Does Bionic Commando’s cyberarm have wires for armpit hair? Just wondering.

  4. Has any of the T-G crew played Bionic Commando? There was a MP demo out, what did y’all think about that?

  5. Desert, I share your enthusiasm for Boom Blox Bash Party. Day 1 purchase right here.

  6. I liked it too, but the first one dropped in price pretty damn quick. So I’m going to wait for a bit.

  7. Boom Blox Party for sure. I loved the first one’s two player games!

  8. They do have a type of score attack, just gold, silver and bronze medals.

  9. I cant stand how the main character of BC looks. generic multiracial action guy.

  10. I haven’t heard much buzz for BC, so I’m ‘wait and see’ on it.

  11. Nola and Gear caught the Puchi Puchi Virus, and thats why they are not posting.

  12. Why is Punchout the greatest thing since sliced bread now? It’s a series of learning boss battles where moves are told via a small visual and then you exploit them. That’s it, no reflexes or brains are necessary.

  13. They need to make a hair metal version with Def Leopard, Ratt, Quiet Riot, Twisted Sister, and Motley Crue.

  14. I need a new DS game, but most of those games aren’t doing anything for me. Anyone know the next first-party release?

  15. *Cough! Weeze!* I… I posted. X_x;

    …Haha, yeah, I’m slow.

  16. Wait is there a skin in the game, or are you creating rumors for the interwebz?

  17. But once you pass gold, that it. There’s no improving on it. I think that’s what they mean.
