New Releases 3/29-4/4: Digital Drumline Edition

This week players have two divergent music diversions: one- they can roleplay as everyone’s favorite litigious longhairs, or, conversely- use their Wiimote to lead a motley marching band of flowers, mushrooms, cuddly bears. Game mainstays, Cooking Mama and Leisure Suit Larry, will be doing little to transcend gender stereotype, as they tend a garden, and run a seedy movie studio, respectively.

DesertEagle’s Pick
: Although I wasn’t a fan of Parappa the Rapper and Umjammer Lammy‘s simon-says inspired gameplay, I loved the quirky art style and general wackiness. Transposing the aesthetic to another game mechanic may just get me to fall in line with Masaya Matsuura and Rodney Alan Greenblat’s latest collaboration, Major Minor’s Majestic March.

TideGear’s Pick: Slow week, eh? Well, I’m not typically one for rhythm games, but I’m going to have to agree with DE this week. Major Minor’s Majestic March looks like it might just be different enough to pull me in.

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  5. Wait, you lead a marching band of cute little animals? That’s a game?

Jeez, they need something more to it than that.

  6. Might have a go at Leisure Suit Larry, even though old Al hasn’t had his hand in things for a while.

  7. Actually, I’ve been looking forward to Tokyo Beat Down for a while now after I saw the stylish and humorous trailers for it. I think it could be a sleeper hit, at least I’m certainly hope so, I’ll be bummed if it tanks. Majestic March might be cool too.

  8. Yep, I’m anxious to see if it will get good reviews, I think it has the potential too judging from what I’ve seen

  9. I’m looking forward to playing GH: Metallica, but I don;t think the double bass will be happening for me. I can barely handle one pedal.

  10. When I saw the Guitar Hero: Metallica commercial on TV, I swear I thought it was just an April Fools joke. But it actually turns out to be real? Haha, GH sure are starting to milk their franchise. Tune in this summer for Guitar Hero: My Chemical Romance. BONUS: Lifelike wrist cutting simulation included with Wii version!

  11. Wow, anyone actually picking up the Lesuire Suit Larry game? No idea they were making another one.

I’d pick up GH:M if I hadn’t already played six other fake guitar/band games already. I’m a bit burned out by them now.

  12. Has anyone played a Leisure Suit Larry game in 15 years? Seriously, nothing about that line of games seems appealing to me.
