Rob’s pick: If you’re looking for a fresh take on action-RPGs, Etrange Overlord is a must-play this week. From the mind of Disgaea creator Sohei Niikawa, the game follows the aristocratic Étrange von Rosenburg after a fateful trip to the guillotine. After, she wakes up hell, refuses to bow to tradition, and indulges in sweets while rallying a quirky ensemble of demons.
The game’s real-time combat with a lane-based gimmick keeps battles lively, while the witty writing and occasional musical numbers provide some playful charm. Even if the songs aren’t full-scale musical showstoppers, the game’s celebration of thinking for yourself and challenging societal pressures makes it this week’s standout.

Ryan’s pick: My official pick this week is 100% nostalgia driven as I can’t really ever pass up arcade and console era Konami games. MARVEL MaXimum Collection is a compilation of some of Konami’s iconic arcade beat em’ups, including my all-time favorite X-Men: The Arcade Game. If you are a Spiderman fan then there are three separate 8 and 16-bit games included, and on top of that there’s also an Avengers game. This is an easy pickup if you are a Marvel fan, or if you are looking to bolster your co-op game collection.
There’s two additional releases this week that needed a quick shout, the first being the Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection. This card battling action-rpg collection features seven different games and offers a slightly different type of gameplay for those who want to experience the Mega Man universe in a slightly different light. The second game is the action-RPG Etrange Overlord. As a devout Genshin Impact player I really have come to enjoy the ability to swap characters on the fly and how that can affect the gameplay, so this is also one to watch.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I haven’t got stuck into a fighting game in quite some time now, so I’m really looking forward to Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. It will, in fact, be my first Virtua Fighter (not including the Yakuza series minigames), so I’m really looking forward to the hype. All I’ve heard from anyone, ever, has been good things.
Elsewhere, I’ll also be getting stuck right into Homura: The Crimson Warrior. Idea Factory visual novels are a favourite, and Idea Factory historical fiction visual novels are a favourite within a favourite. I can’t wait to see what they do with the Sengoku period.

FYI: The link isn’t working on Twitter. Had to go manually to the site.
I have nothing against otome. But I fall asleep every single time I try to play them.
