80’s Technology Retrofitted for DS: Bangai-O Spirits DS

With wildly fluctuating sound levels, sham enthusiasm, and a particularly awkward cheer at the end, this clip displaying the data sharing aspect of Bangai-o Spirits, is not Gametrailers finest moment. But, the video effectively shows youngsters what old-timers have tried to forget: using sound frequency to transmit data. Anyone who had a cassette tape drive in the 1980’s will attest to its ineffectiveness.

Tomorrow, Bangai-o Spirits will be released for the DS, a title that has divided DesertEagle and TideGear into two separate camps. You’ll want to return tomorrow to be a part of this historic debate.

  1. The look on the guy in the pink shirts face is priceless.

What the hell is this game?!?!

  2. Am I the only one who thinks that’s cool. But I’m sure you have to go to a very quiet room for this to work.

  3. Megan and Kaori DS sex FTW.

When their DS’s were pressed together, I wanted mine to be in the middle of that sandwich.

  4. Who wears a M*A*S*H shirt anymore?

Can’t wait for the debate. Tide should fear the deagle.

  5. I heard from a CAG that Desert is a 6 foot 4 monster of a man. Not someone you mess with.

But my Ninja Karate could take him out like ‘THAT’!!!

  6. Not true at all. I’m 6’5″!!!

BTW, I used to have a MASH shirt when I was little- I got it free with the 2600 game. I wore it once to school, got made fun of, and never wore it again!

  7. Worst vid of the day. Yes, I’m still lookinf forward to the game. Why the Bangaio hate, DE?

  8. In GameTrailers’ defense I think this was D3’s doing, not theirs.

Wow, as much as I like this game that video took a quick nose dive. I can tolerate the girl’s fake enthusiasm but, that guy sounded like he was talking to a 2 year old. And someone please tell them it’s “BAH”ngai not “BAY”ngai!

The audio transfer idea is cool as it’s not reliant on any dedicated servers or even a net connection. Here’s hoping it works well.

  9. “Interviewer #2: Drederick, ah, what do you think of Homer Simpson?
Tatum: I think he’s a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I’m definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
Interviewer #3: Uh, you know, they do have a mother, Champ?
Tatum: Yes, but I would imagine that she would die of grief.”

This is my attitude towards this debate!

…No but seriously, on this one we’ll probably end up agreeing on some things and disagreeing on others.

I was thinking it’s possible someone will create some pretty insane levels that are much less puzzle-y. Maybe that will bring DE around.

  10. I feel your pain. I had a Sonic the Hedgehog backpack in junior high and I wore it DESPITE snickers and comments.

You gotta wear your geek-dom like a badge of honor!

  11. He’s always telling me how much he hates joy and fun.

…Actually, he feels it’s much more puzzle-oriented than it’s predecessors. It’s somewhat like the challenge mode of some action game where the game’s difficulty requires more strategy than action.

  12. No, the sound quality was def. gametrailers fault. My mom always records b-day without a microphone and they all sound like that 🙂

  13. Ha, I had a cassette recorder hooked up to my Sinclair- It worked about 30% of the time; man that was frustrating!
