Rob’s pick: Marshmallow All the Way Home might look like another lighthearted, cozy visual novel, but there’s more going on beneath the fluffy surface. It’s sweet without being shallow. And the writing attempts to capture life’s quiet moments is a more truthful way than most visual novels. Speaking of honesty, the characters feel a bit two dimensional, with their own histories and hang-ups. Add a dash of urgency with a mega-mall threatening the livelihood of a small bakery, and Marshmallow is a winning recipe.

Other than that, I hope to finish RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Soulless Army, which has been one of the favorite remakes in recent memory. Apologies to Gex, Croc, Tony Hawk, and anyone else insulted by this observation.

Ryan’s pick: Nothing is really standing out to me this week from the list unfortunately, but Season 9 of Diablo IV just launched, so I will be continuing my long-term goal of reaching my 300th Paragon level. There have been some recent claims in the community against some of the more recent changes that were done for the Battle Pass, but in general my experience playing each season has been pretty positive, with a few bugs here and there. I’ve found it’s pretty enjoyable to try out OP builds for new characters, and you can level much faster than doing the normal campaign quests when playing in the Season mode. Last season’s Berserk crossover event was pretty awesome as well, so we’ll see how it goes.

There is one other game on Switch that caught my eye which was Beat of Life. It’s a rhythm-based game where you need to time keypresses so that various organs and body parts of the player can continue to be healthy. The catch is that if you don’t perform well, the character dies. I think that it may take me some time to get used to the timing, but in general I like the art and the music had some serious bass which I was liking. I’ve found the Hatsune Miku rhythm games to be pretty fun and easy to pick up and put down on the Switch in short bursts, so this could provide some respite as I continue to grind these Paragon levels.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I’m really liking the way Arcade Archives 2 is shaping up. The first one in this new series of lovingly restored arcade titles was the excellent Ridge Racer for the Nintendo Switch 2 (which has actually become one of my most played Switch 2 titles), and the second game will be AIR COMBAT 22. Clearly, Arcade Archives 2 will be preserving more advanced hardware arcade games. I’ve never played AIR COMBAT 22, but I do love dogfighting sims, so I can’t wait to dig into this.

I’m also looking forward to digging into Marshmallow All the Way Home. It’s been a while since I last played a sweet little visual novel, and this one looks set to tick those boxes. The art is utterly gorgeous too. I’ve got a bunch of other VNs to play right now, but I’m expecting that this will be a nice tonal shift from those ones.
