Dead Litigation

After last week’s legal ramblings, this didn’t come as a complete surprise. Yesterday, MKR Group filed suit against Dead Rising publisher Capcom stating that the game was a bit too close in tone to the two Dawn of the Dead films.

“Both works are dark comedies. In both, the recreational
activities of the zombies and absurdly grotesque ‘kill scenes’ provide
unexpected comedic relief.” the complain stated. “Both works provided thoughtful social commentary on the ‘mall
culture’ zeitgeist, in addition to serving up a sizable portion of
sensationalistic violence.”

Capcom has not commented on the suit yet. Personally, we’re afraid this might delay the inevitable Dead Rising 2.

  1. Saw this one coming.

  2. I hate when once great artists sue to make a living. It’s embarrassing. Go out with dignity.

  3. Please tell me this will get thrown out of court! It’s a waste to time and money for all involved.

What’s next the Resident Evil series?

  4. That will never stand up in court.

  5. Well, the game is very similar to the movie. When I played it, I know they were inspired from Dawn of the Dead, Maybe they can give them a little bit on money and Dead Rising 2 can have the official Dawn name on it.

  6. Man, they are completely different experiences.

  7. Whata load of crap.

  8. Next thing you know there will be lawsuits against Shaun of the Dead, Flight of the Dead, Day of the Dead 2: Contagium, Dorm of the Dead and anything that has “Dead” in the title.

  9. Even Tech-Gaming will be used for the title of this article!

  10. Wasn’t the original “Return of the Living Dead” plagued with a lawsuit?
