Rob’s pick: 4PGP (or 4 Player Grand Prix) is aiming to recreate the kind of arcade racing that SEGA perfected with Virtua Racing, Daytona, and SEGA Rally Championship. With good-looking visuals, a promise of 60 fps performance on portable PCs, split-screen for up to a quartet of competitors, and a decent select of cars and tracks, it seems to have all the essentials. Hopefully, play will be engaging enough to keep me coming back in an effort to shave milliseconds off those lap times. Back in the day, I had a dry erase board to keep track of my friends’ records and I just might have to bring this tradition back.
Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked has been out for a few months on PC and its probably one of the most accessible ways to enjoy a bit of dungeoneering during your lunch. Typically, D&D games can be rather time consuming, and Demeo’s hook it to keep everything streamlined. While that approach might not appeal to stanch strategists, I’m always up for a reworking that isn’t afraid to take a few chances with a time-worn property. Lastly, Tales Of Wakana is the kind of clever indie I can’t resist.

Ryan’s pick: Super Monaco GP was one of my first Genesis games that I owned and I still to this day remember that you could run over the flag carrier person and send them flying into the horizon if you hit them right. It seemed out of place, but it was just the icing on the cake as at its core it was a solid racing game for its time. 4PGP gets the official pick this week for bringing that same energy from the 90’s into a crowd-pleasing split-screen F1 racer. I feel like this particular subgenre of racing games is even more particular in terms of how you approach turns and optimizing laps, so there may be a bit more of a learning curve than a typical arcade racer.
SPORTAL gets a quick mention this week for building upon the Serious Sam arena FPS genre with implementing various sports equipment as weapons. I think the thing I like the most about the game is that you have to survive hordes of campy classic monsters as you whip various sports items at them. Lastly, Zenless Zone Zero (ZZZ) is coming to Steam and is a pretty fun F2P gacha style action rpg game. There’s a lot to do in these games that typically will keep you engaged daily without having to pay, but be fair warned that HoYoverse is in the waifu and husbando business and will require some time, patience, and research to find the right characters for your team and preferred playstyle.

You need an internet connection to play Zenless Zone Zero on PC, right?
