New Releases: May 14-20, 2026

Leading this week’s schedule of new releases is Forza Horizon 6, bringing back the series’ blend of open-road racing, exotic cars, and premium-priced spectacle. Shooter fans also have plenty to keep an eye on, with R-Type Dimensions 3 reviving IREM’s side-scrolling franchise, Sektori offering its own stylish spin on twin-stick action, and Söldner-X 2 returning for another dose of projectile-filled intensity. Rob’s pick: With Sektori coming to Switch 2 and R-Type Dimensions III arriving on most hardware, it’s looking like a good week for STG fans, especially ones who don’t mind a challenge. Sektori’s twin-stick shooting doesn’t provide many opportunities for error, unless you save up for extra shielding Gradius-style. On top of that risk-reward mechanic there’s several different unlockable modes. Best of all, you can feel yourself getting ever-so-slightly better across each game. Honestly, it took me about 10 runs to stop getting anything D grades. But once I started earning straight As, Sektori clicked.

Meanwhile, R-Type Dimensions III updates the 1994 SNES title, offering an optional modernized visual style. Luckily, the game remains a solid horizontal-scroller, elevated by the ability to power-up your main guns and creative uses of your Force orbs. One of the differences here is you get to select from three distinctive types of secondaries. Factor in the appearance of Söldner-X Complete Collection and trigger fingers will be kept busy this week. I have to admit, Ryan’s breakout of RoadOut has me interested; Dangen publishes a few sleepers.

Ryan’s pick: RoadOut caught my eye this week for blending 2D driving and an action RPG together. At first glance the driving portion reminded me slightly of the oldschool RC Pro AM and Super Sprint on NES which should be a great way to navigate the overworld. Playing as the merc Claire in the action RPG portion equally looks great, with some top-down twin-stick shooting mayhem. Content-wise there appears to be a lot here, with skill trees and other customizations available, so count me in.

Point and click adventures will forever remind me of adolescence as there were no shortage of them in the early to late 90’s on PC. Panthalassa could easily have been a game I would have pulled off the shelf at Electronics Boutique had it launched in the late 90’s, so I wanted to give a quick shout for it. Visually it looks like something I would have seen on MTV’s Liquid Television which makes it pretty unique. I have hopes that the puzzle aspects aren’t as infuriating as some of the other point and click games in the 90’s. I won’t name names, except for Star Trek: A Final Unity. In my nightmares I still hear Geordi La Forge still say “I didn’t work,” over and over again as I click on every single pixel trying to figure out how to progress things during exploration.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): It’s rare that we get a video game that gives war the treatment it really deserves. Too much adventurism and kill streaks, not enough questioning why people are there in the first place. The Caribou Trail looks like one of those rare games about war that I could get along with. It’s also set in Gallipoli, and as an Australian that particular theatre of WW1 has a strong resonance. Let’s see if it can hit the same level as the 80’s film, Gallipoli.

Corsairs – Battle of the Caribbean also looks really neat. It’s a timeless setting, of course, but there’s a lot of strategic interest about how ships and fleets were managed and battled back then. If this game can capture even a little of that it’ll go what all really good strategy games do – entertain, but also very subtly inspire you to learn something.
