New Releases: April 16-22, 2026

This week’s lineup of new releases, ranges from big-budget sci-fi spectacles to offbeat indie experiments. Headlining the charge is PRAGMATA’s (pictured) attempt at delivering cinematic action while MOUSE: P.I. For Hire provides some fluidly animated noir-inspired action. Joining these headliners are indie efforts like Vampire Crawlers and Under Par Golf Architect bringing new ways to dungeon crawl and design sand traps. Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors ($9.99)

Rob’s pick: I don’t remember the specific time period, but I do recall getting hooked on Sid Meier’s SimGolf. The actual game of golf was pretty basic overhead-perspective affair but the ability to design your own courses had me hooked. This week, Under Par Golf Architect hopes to deliver the same experience. So far, I only tried it out on Steam Deck and the controls seem to scream out for a proper mouse-and-keyboard. Let’s hope that changes since it’s coming to Switch 2 (and please don’t make me use a Joy-Con for a mouse).

The original Vampire Survivors is one of those games where I think I’ve gotten gotten more than enough enjoyment from. This week Vampire Crawlers turns things into a DRPG with deckbuilding mechanics and I really hope that developer poncle matches the value proposition of the original game. Even if it doesn’t, investigating labyrinths and taking down hordes of enemies seems like a proper directions for Vampires first mainline follow-up.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I didn’t play the original Tomodachi Life, so I went into Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream rather naive to its concept and charms and… things went really (REALLY) surreal. I dutifully put myself in as the first resident, and then went about recreating all my characters from The Last Waltz in there. The next thing I know Dee Dee has fallen head over heels in love with me, and I’ve flatly rejected her, and now she’s miserable and ruining the vibe of the entire island and… it’s just weird. So very, very weird. I love it.

The other pick for me this week is, amazingly, a blockbuster. Pragmata is one of the first “big budget” games that I’ve truly loved in a very long time. It offers a clever, layered take on the action shooter formula, and the relationship between space-daddy and robot-daughter is one that genuinely grew on me. I found Kratos’ relationship with “the boy” to be totally unbelievable and Joel and Ellie’s relationship to be too manufactured. Pragmata hits a different resonance, and I found it very affecting. That plus the fact the game’s writers clearly hate unchecked and unrestrained technology libertarianism. Developers after my own heart.

Ryan’s pick: FPS is the one genre that I can never get enough of and MOUSE: P.I. For Hire 
gets the vote this week with some impressive hand-drawn 1930’s style cartoon art. The level of detail in the game is meticulous, which brings you into the cartoon world a bit more than 2D in that you can even see the cartoon projectiles being shot at you. The sounds and jazz soundtrack also really help set this one apart, as typically my cromagnon brain is expecting loud gunshots, grunts, Wilhelm screams, and explosions when playing a FPS. This one is pretty impressive so please give it a look.

I have two additional quick mentions this week, with the first being PRAGMATA. I’ve spent a lot of time in the RE Engine lately playing the RE4 Remake and the graphics and character models are stellar so visually I have high expectations for the game. As a retired Honkai: StarRail, my mind immediately thought of the Clara and Svarog combo team when seeing the main protagonists, so I’ll have to keep an eye on this one. Lastly, reluctantly I had to quit playing Vampire Crawlers because of my eyes, but I really liked the art, weapons, and simplicity of the game so I’m also interested in checking out their new turn-based deckbuilder game Vampire Crawlers: The Turbo Wildcard from Vampire Survivors.
