New Releases 2/21-2/27: Chance of Heavy Rain Edition

This week’s new releases seemed to be highly polarized. On one end of the spectrum, there are diversions to appease all types of jingoists- from the tactics of Napoleon: Total War to the ‘freedom via the fire button’ escapades of Marco Rossi’s paramilitary unit. Those uninterested in the gravity of conflict might appreciate the games on the other side of the dichotomy. Here, skirmishes are shirked for a friendly lap around the Green Hill Zone or a jovial jaunt with the Jamaican bobsled team.

DesertEagle’s Pick: While the title may not be as relevant to DS owners who have runned, gunned, and completed Metal Slug 7, I am excited for the additional features of Metal Slug XX. With 70 trial based missions in ‘Combat School’, cooperative multiplayer, and a $20 price point, this title seems irresistible.

SeanNOLA’s Pick
: I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.  Although my fervor for the title has been considerably diluted over time, I am nevertheless interested to see how the final cut turns out.  I am almost more excited about the discussions I will have about Heavy Rain than I am about playing the actual game.

TideGear’s Pick
: Even my name, TideGear, evidences that I’ve always had a fascination with the ocean and, more specifically, exploration thereof. For this reason,
Endless Ocean: Blue World is my pick this week. Having not played the first one, but having heard many good things, it may be time to dive in. Still, other titles like Metal Slug XX and Greed Corp have definitely caught my attention.

  1. Maybe Last Rebellion even though I heard it kind of sucked.

  2. Did I miss something or was Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing demo just a another lame kart racer?

  3. “I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.”

I’m sick about hearing about it too. Enough already!

  4. Man, I hate that I have a bunch of bills rolling in this week, I really wanted to pick up Heavy Rain. Hopefully I can find a way to curb my expenses to pick it up soon.

  5. DE picked Metal Slug over Heavy Rain? WHA?

  6. Are you trying to trick us with the trivia question? Is it a DLC release, cause those have no screenshots.

  7. I haven’t got a chance to play the game yet, but two colleagues were a bit indifferent toward it, hence my hesitation.

Plus I’m sucker for the Metal Slug games; in a perfect world, the Contra series would still be making awesome 2D epics.

  8. No tricks 🙂

The game is an actual title that you would pick up in a store.

  9. Where’s Tide’s picks? HAHAHA

Seriously, why haven’t I heard of Risen or Deadly Premonition?

  10. I’m hearing good things about Napoleon: Total War. The series has always been good.

  11. I stall haven’t played the Heavy Rain demo.

  12. Except for HR, the week isn’t looking so good.

  13. what the rating on Lovely Lisa and Friends? Is it’s a “M” I’m there!

Will probably get Metal Slug XXX, I mean XX then!

  14. Deagle, you getting WarBirds Dogfights?

  15. Origami Killer? Whats next- the Breakfast Cereal Strangler, or the Nail Polish rapist?

  16. I hear Pony Friends 2 is banned in 14 countries 😉

  17. I thought the same. Could you even dodge/avoid attacks?

What was up with the assy framerate?

  18. DM sent! No pickups for me!

  19. What will you guys be reviewing this week?

  20. Yeah, when you start lagging on the first turn of your demo youre in trouble. Attacks just slowed me down though, no biggie.

  21. What is Greed Corp? Never heard of it.

  22. Crap week for the 360.

  23. Endless Ocean: Blue World with a Wiispeak for $30 isn’t bad at all. Probably what I’ll be getting.

  24. Dm sent. I think I know the answer!

  25. Some good PC release this week!

  26. Except for Heavy Rain its a bad week for games.

  30. Nothing for me this week.

  31. No money, no new games.

  32. Was the trivia answered yet?

  33. Metal Slug XX for $20 sound good to me.

  34. Releasing a game without screenshots on the box sounds like a recipe for disaster.

  35. Walker Texas Rapist

Who knew Origami could kill? What’s next smoking and trans fats?

  36. Man, everyone seems to be hating Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. I liked the demo, it wasn’t bad at all. Just a bit too hard.

  37. Cant wait for Napoleon: Total War!

  38. Its a DLC game. I hear it like a realtime risk.

  39. Thanks for the list, this was exactly what I was looking for. Do you have extended lists that go into the future as well?

  40. No love for Last rebellion? I thought you loved NIS games?

  41. What did you guys think of the Heavy Rain demo?

  42. LOL. Witch’s Tale got the D-bomb, though

  43. Is Heavy Rain a PS3 exclusive?

  44. Isn’t one of you guys a big Dawn of Discovery fan?

  45. Anyone get a crash on their PS3 Heavy Rain demo?

  46. I might have to light um, I mean sled with the Jamaicans.

  47. I guess there’s no more PS2 games, I haven’t see any on the list in a while.

  48. Bacon. Bacon is next.

  49. Nothing good this week 🙁

  50. I do like those Yu-Gi-Oh games. There I admitted it!

  51. Tidegear is MIA this week I guess. Maybe he’s stuck in Rapture.

  52. I’m hearing mixed things on HR. I think I’ll rent not buy.

  53. I want to try Sonic All Stars, but the framerate scared me off.

  54. Hope there’s some Heavy Rain spoiler free talk on the podcast.

  55. Last Rebellion is preordered.

  56. This week, I’m going with Pony Friends 2. Because horses can be great pals!

Editor’s Note: No, this really isn’t Adam, but I left the comment stand, as I made me snicker. However, this will cease to be funny the second time this type of joke is done.

  57. This isn’t for real, is it?

  58. Good list of upcoming games to be released. There are a lot of good games coming this year.

  59. Adam Milecki - TideGear

    Up now!

  60. Adam Milecki - TideGear

    Pick posted!

  61. Adam Milecki - TideGear

Haha, nooo, but I congratulate all my pony-appreciating friends on yet another game devoted to their cause!

  62. Yes, Get my copy tomorrow 🙂

  63. OOOHHH!! I’m totally looking forward to Heavy Rain, maybe last rebellion and deadly premonition. L.R. and D.P. I haven’t heard much about, and will probably rent. But I really want to try out heavy rain 😀

  64. I can’t wait for Heavy rain :3

  65. What a good sport!

Adam, only likez the animal games that end with a “Z”, duh!

  66. I’m looking forward to this one.

  67. Who won the trivia?

  68. Heavy Rain is almost here, cant wait for it, and the new preorder chapter.

  69. I think I will pick up Heavy Rain this week.
If I had a DS Hello Kitty: Birthday Adventures would be my #1.

  70. Pony Friends> Hello Kitty for sure!

  71. After the review, The Korg game will be my pick of the week.

  72. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing.

  73. Whens the next podcast?

  74. I think Heavy Rain will be a one time rental kind of game for me. It doesn’t sound like it’ll have too much replay value.

  75. “I am happy to see that 3 years of Heavy Rain coverage are finally coming to an end.”

I thankfully have been immersed with so many other things I haven’t heard all the day to day updates. Now that its here I have been paying a little closer attention.

Everything I hear is a love it or hate it game. Either a lot of the minor bugs tweaks, roughly designed button variances, and controls will get under your skin or the won’t. With all that being said its something different, and therefore worthy of at least a try.

  76. I hope you’ll talk some Sonic 4 on the podcast!

  77. Woot, I can’t wait for Heavy Rain. I know it’s released, but I haven’t had a chance to pick up my copy.

  78. Heavy rain sounds amazing, and I too am glad the game’s finally out after all these years of waiting and hype (and from what I hear, it lives up to the hype)

I only hope I can say the same for Episode 3 or Duke Nukem Forever :S

  79. Another once thats seeing a slew of great releases as well as some great cult hits like Deadly Premonition and the Last Rebellion both of which I hope to pick up. I also eagerly anticipate Napoleon Total War since the Total War series is and has been one of my favorite strategy games since I played Medieval Total War. My favorite in the series so far has been Rome Total War though.
Also, Heavy Rain seems like its got alot of people eager to buy it, which is good since I want to support Quantic Dream for releasing such a innovative new IP!

  80. I have been waiting on this game to come out. From what I have seen of the reviews it should be a good one.
