Rob’s pick: I know, it seems like action-roguelikes releases every eight seconds these days. But hear me out: Dunjungle is one of the best side-scrolling entries around. Much of this stems from developer Bruno Bombardi crafting some really satisfying weapon synergies. Whether you like to hit hard, strike from afar, or just watch your opponents succumb to poison, this is the next best thing to Dead Cells.

And while the industry might not be saturated with cute ‘em ups, I realize they’re not for everyone. However, if you do like adorability mixed with bullet curtains, Trouble Witches FINAL! Episode 01 Daughters of Amalgam might be worth a look. Originally released during Summer Comiket 72 (way back in 2007) the doujin has been expanded and released for nearly two decades now. Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is one of my favourite Warhammer games ever. The Owlcat team did a spectacular job bringing the good work they did with turn-based tabletop RPG gameplay in the Pathfinder series to the dark future of 40K. I’ve already played the game a whole lot, but I’ll pick it up on Switch 2 just to have it there when I don’t have my PC handhelds with me.

I’m also intrigued by the two BAROQUE games getting a release. While I would prefer the actual Baroque get ported to the Switch – it is still the finest and most intelligent roguelike I’ve ever played – I do like that there’s still life in the property and the team at Sting is still looking to do more with it. Bring on a Baroque 2.

Mike’s pick: So far AI has raised RAM prices and ruined social media with slop content production. Now, it’s threatening to ruin gaming. As such, I have no choice but to do my part and take down SKYNET in Terminator 2D: NO FATE. Bitmap Bureau has proven they have the skills to make some satisfying arcade-style titles. Battle Axe, Final Vendetta, and Xeno Crisis would have all taken my quarters had they been released 20 years earlier.

With NO FATE, I’m hopeful that the team recreates the classic set pieces of James Cameron’s films with some classic run-and-gun style play. I’m hoping for a grainy digitized version of Arnold’s “I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle” before wiping the floor with a bunch of boisterous bikers. HASTA LA VISTA, BABY!
