New Releases 1/17-1/23: Fly the Unfriendly Skies Edition

Three weeks into January, the action game onslaught continues. Hot on the heels of Bayonetta, Darksiders, and Army of Two: The 40th Day, Capcom’s Dark Void hopes to jet-pack into the burgeoning field of joystick jerkers. Did the recent demo on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation Store ignite gamer’s afterburners or send them hurtling headfirst into an unyielding object?

Dark Void

DesertEagle’s Pick: I always pay attention When Nintendo releases a first-party title. When the game happens to be a role-playing game loosely based on Greek mythology,  my geek-meter goes into overdrive. Not even a protagonist clad in Medieval European armor can quell the klaxon! Glory of Heracles, it is.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Having not yet played Shattered Memories on the Wii, I am curious to see how they managed to translate the tailor-made Wii horror experience to a controller.  However, being a huge fan of The Rocketeer, I have to give my pick to Dark Void.

TideGear’s Pick: Like Sean, I am very much a Rocketeer fan. While we may never get any more glorious Rocketeer love, perhaps Dark Void will sooth me. I just hope it’s a better experience than what I had with it at E3.

  1. I also loved the Rocketeer! Doesn’t everyone? Tide, Desert?

  2. Intelligent Zombie

I hear Dark Void is so-so. Demo was pretty poor.

  3. When I played the Dark Void demo, I though, “How much does Nathan North” Work ????

Must he be in every damn game?

  4. I just cant get worked up over anything being released this week.

  5. I saw the Pinball Hall of Fame yesterday and ALMOST bought it.

  6. Yep, DV demo was very underwhelming. GoH might be the best pick.

  7. It’s the season for B-grade action games.

  8. Heracles is spelled wrong!

  9. I might give Silent Hill: Shattered Memories a rental.

  10. Downloading the Rocketee…I mean Dark Void demo to see what all the fuss is about.

  11. I’ll write it before anyone elese does…

    “where’s TideGear’s picks?”

  12. I’ll probably avoid Dark Void, until it hits the bargain bin.

  13. A slow week. FFXXIII need to get and get things moving!

  14. That screen shot reminds me of Lost Planet for some reason. Is Capcom using the same engine?

  15. Another weak week 🙁

That said- if there’s ever a deal on Hercules I might check it out.

  16. I also liked Rocketeer. I never knew why it didn’t do better.

  17. Wasn’t “klaxon” a game?

  18. Yeah, it seemed pretty lame. Take out the jet Pack and the game wouldn’t get $20

  19. I’m just amazed their still making PS2 games.

  20. Are you thinking of Zaxxon?

  21. Klax was a puzzle game in the arcade and the NES. “Its the 90s, and it’s time for Klax!” Oh memories…

  22. Was that the one where you dropped the tiles? I remember that one!

  23. Blame a little movie called Terminator 2: Judgment Day which came out on the same day. I’ll let you guess which movie got my money.

  24. Mr. Nola,

Is a podcast in the cooker? I’m waiting for a new one.

  25. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the PSP, so I can play at work.

  26. Dark Void seems like a budget game to me.

  27. I’ll probably get the Gottlieb collection, then.

  28. I hear the Dark Void for the pc looks much better than the console versions.

  29. Wow, Dark Void is getting a whipping this weekend.

  30. Nothing for me. Thanks for the info, guys!

  31. No pick ups this week for me.

  32. GoH for me.

  33. I’ll gamefly Dark Void and see if the final game is any better.

  34. Anyone know why Heracles is spelled that way? Does Zeus have good lawyers or what?

  35. Adam Milecki - TideGear

  36. No hard feelings, I hope. I was making a joke about the weekly ritual.

  37. What are you guys going to review?

  38. Rocketeer-2

Sorry, Desert, but I’m going to have to agree with Tide and Nola.

  39. Bejeweled Twist, if the twist is really a change on the game.

  40. This week’s releases are pretty stale. Hard to get excited about a shooter with jet packs that isn’t Tribes.

  41. We’ve been having technical/scheduling difficulties lately, but we’re planning on recording one tonight, so if you’ve got questions for us, make sure to get them to DEagle ASAP!

  42. I await your Dark Void review!
