Podcast 9-1: Squirtle for Secretary of Defense

With presidential candidates reciting lyrics from Pokémon: The Movie 2000, gaming just may have reached critical mass. To celebrate this achievement, the crew offers impressions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Worms: Crazy Golf, SD Gundam: Capsule Fighters Online, 3rd Birthday, and a new Android tablet. Before we offer our usual does of gaming trivia and answers to reader questions, we welcome returning guest Ryan Phillips, who discusses Cave Story 3D as well as upcoming Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten DLC.

Don’t forget to send your questions for our next mailbag, and subscribe to the Tech-Gaming Podcast on iTunes. Leaving a review would be an awesome thing to do and keep us from begging for feedback every show.

    Sean’s a dwarf.

  2. Where the hell is Sage this week?

  3. Who was the famous guy you guys didn’t know?

  4. With Herman Cain groping tendencies, he’s a pretty bad Pokemon spokesperson. Whose next Pedobear?

  5. I would shoot the food too, Deagle! Kill ’em all!

  6. I wonder if it creeps Deagle and Cheapy out that Sean is dreaming of them.

  7. great show….

…until the tablet talk. Sorry, pretty boring…

  8. Sean and Rob: MW3 didn’t cost more than 100 mill. MW2 cost $40-$60 million.

    • Los Angeles Times’s John Horn and Claudia Eller guessed that Avatar cost million for the production, plus marketing costs, so about $340-360 million by most estimates. It’s made 2.7 billion.

MW3 with marketing is going to be under the $100 million mark. It made 400 million in it’s first 2.4 hours and looks to clear 2.5 by the end of the year.

Analysis: MW3 was a quarter of a billion dollars cheaper to make and will be just as financially successful as Avatar. Acti stock to go up slightly, held back by WoW’s 7-10% subscription drop. Expect others to take interest in a proven moneymaker.

  19. Good one this week.

  20. grabbing the show right now. Busy day today, but I’ll try to listen.

  21. I hope you give more MW3 time next week, people!

  22. Man, I can’t believe I missed D&D talk. I love D&D, – well, when it’s more story based instead of dungeon crawling. I’m also about to start a Fall of Darkness campaign with some ppl. I’m a kindred of the East 🙂 (if anyone knows the game)

  23. Yes, NIS Interview. woo-hoo!

  24. I like the way Ryan and Rob get along. I guess it helps that Deagle’s a NIS fanboy.

  26. More Elite talk next show. Oh, and I agree about the NIS guy. Have him on again. Maybe for the full show.

  27. Goddamn it buy that RC Tarantula, Blue.

    • This week’s show was sponsored by Big Lots, huh? I liked the way you guys were extra lively this week.

    • If I wasn’t afraid I’d give my grandmother a heart attack, I’d so get that, prank her with it, and upload the video to YouTube. She’d freak if she saw that thing walking down her hallway! LOL!

  28. my favorite part of the show was Deagle’s reaction to “Losing the Sheen”

  29. Pretty good one this week. Great interview, trivia segment. Tablet talk wasn’t so hot. RC tarantulas talk was awesome though, Blue.

  30. Why didn’t Ryan get his Prinny to talk this time? Still excited for Disgea 4 DLC!

  31. Pretty good one this week. Like Deagle and NOLAs chatter on things.

  32. Sean, I saw your plug for Hubig’s pies. What’s the best New Orleans food that we are missing?

    • Crawfish. God I miss crawfish.
I went to the Long Beach Crawfish Festival earlier this year, and my girlfriend took me to a restaurant with “New Orleans Style Crawfish” for my birthday, but they’re boils were both really really bland. The restaurant also served it with “Cajun Andouille” that was actually just polish sausage. I was not amused.

    • Sounds yummy. I swear New Orleans has some of the best food in the US.

    • Wrong “their”; I guess no one is perfect! 😉

My question- did you tell the GF the food wasn’t that good, or do you try not to be a Debbie Downer?

I was treated to a really boring slab of Kobi beef (which I’m almost certain wasn’t from Hyogo) and I had to keep my trap shut for fear of ‘ruining everything’. Oh, women.

  34. Damn, I love me some Squirtle. Pokemon only gets good after I’ve caught him.

  35. Great show. Bring back Samurage, though. Her additions and reactions are really missed this week.

  36. Great trivia- again, Weekend Confirmed talked about Herman Cain.

  37. Desert, I hope you explain how Modern Warfare 3 went from a fake shooting gallery, to an A- game.

  38. Hey guys for the next show can you talk about any new comics that you are enjoying?

  39. Good one this week, but no more tablet talk please.

  40. FYI

TideGear’s whereabouts have been found. He dropped the “M” from his name and no likes Skyrim:

  41. The tablet discussion was succesful enough to get tablet ads it seems. I hope Blue gets a cut of it.

  42. How come your podcast doesn’t have a catchier title than the T-G Podcast? Do you have a favorite podcast title? I know Sean mentioned he liked Losing the Sheen.

    • BTW- Are you guys going to review Saints Row: The Third? Your man in Japan Cheapy will be in the game.

  43. Happy Thanksgiving all! I hope you have some BF stories for us, NOLA!

  44. Tech-Gaming’s Thanksgiving:

    1) Catch Turkey Monster Hunter style.
    2) Have Deagle harvest cranberries ala Harvest Moon
    3) Blue will create his favorite Sailor Moon yams, while Sage preps the turkey.
    3) Stuffing? PUT IT IN!
