Rob’s pick: Of all the sports games out there, I’ve put more time into golf than any other. While I’ve dabbled with Tiger Woods, Links, and Pangya, I find myself habitually returning to the Hot Shots/Everybody’s Golf series. Between the accessibility of the triple-click system and the chibified visuals, the franchise seems to consistently hit par. Although I’m undoubtedly looking forward to the latest release, there’s a bit of trepidation, since neither Camelot nor Clap Hanz is involved. This time out, Hyde is handing development duties, and while their previous efforts have been solid, I wonder if they’ll be able to truly push the franchise forward. I need a reason to move on from what I already own.

If hitting the greens isn’t your thing, Shuten Order might be a better recommendation. Kazutaka Kodaka’s imaginative visual novel offers five storylines that span pulpy detective fiction, stealth action, and even a bit of romance. If you appreciate unconventional thrillers overflowing with clever ideas, prepare yourself for one of the most ambitious titles since Kodaka’s own The Hundred Line – Last Defense Academy. Maybe the biggest mystery is how he keeps coming up with so many ingenious ideas.

Ryan’s pick: Hollow Knight was recommended to me by a friend and after playing for an hour or two I was absolutely hooked. Its art style, well-animated combat, and the boss fights were all pretty memorable, so I’m 100% going with Hollow Knight: Silksong this week. The game has 40 bosses, and from what I remember at the size of the map the world was massive. If you like metrodvanias then this one should definitely be on your radar.

In spending countless hours trying to remember where I once saw that one spot in my weekly pick above, I am probably going to need something a bit lighter and easily digestable, so Kemono Teatime gets a brief mention here. The premise seems pretty light, in that you help create tea-based beverages for other kemomimis. I like the art and the soft color scheme of the game, and I think there’s a small chance I might be able to learn a little bit about tea from this one, so count me in.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I’m super keen on Hot Shots Golf. It’s been a while since I was last hooked on a cartoony, casual, entertainment-first golf game, and that one was Clap Hanz Golf, which is basically the same franchise. It would take a lot for the developers to screw this up so I’m expecting it to be a reliably entertaining time.

Meanwhile, I never did play the original Daemon X Machina, but I’m really enjoying this new one. Huge levels of customisation, big open world to explore. It has some strong Xenoblade Chronicles X vibes to it, with the only weakness being a pretty flat story (at least, so far). I’d be happy to forgive that though as the moment-to-moment play is just so entertaining.
