Rob’s pick: Expectedly, Atelier Resleriana: The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian delivers yet another worthwhile entry that delivers time-tested alchemical gameplay with yet another poignant storyline. Honestly, I don’t know how Gust is able to keep the franchise fresh, but I’m glad they still do. This time out, dual protagonists, Resna and Valeria, provide divergent perspectives that deepen the game’s explorations.
But I like my pew-pew shooters just as much as alchemical pondering, so if you’re looking for an engaging STG, Mamorukun ReCurse! is a worthwhile effort, whether you opt for the classic controls or the twin-stick method. Let’s those cursed bullets loose!

Ryan’s pick: Earlier in the year I finally took some time to play the Silent Hill 2 remake and loved every second of it, so Silent Hill f goes to the top of the list this week. The setting of it being in the 1960’s in rural Japan really has me interested, as recalling back to when I was watching Higurashi things were just that much scarier due to less technology and I feel like this may be the case with this game as well. Anxiety and uncertainty go hand in hand with this series, but at the same time the story, puzzles, and exploration parts kind of help to find a balance between that stress and keeping you engaged. At least those mannequins won’t be in this one…I hope.
Two-on-two basketball games have always been my weakness, as I still to this day remember playing NBA Jam in the arcades and consistently picking Shaq on the Orlando Magic. NBA Bounce gets a mention this week for bringing a whole bunch of nostalgia in chibi format. Granted you won’t be able to play as actual players in the league, but I’m glad to see that newer generations will be able to enjoy this genre as it’s a blast to play with friends.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): God I’m going to have a lot of games to catch up on when I get back from Japan and Tokyo Game Show. If I had to pick just one game from that list, it would have to be Hotel Barcelona. The combination of Goichi Suda and Hidetaka Suehiro is surely just too good to overlook. Right? RIGHT?
I am of course looking forward to the latest Atelier as well. They’re such reliable, comfort food good games and I keep waiting for the incredible release schedule to result in something that drops the ball, and the developers at Gust never let me down.

Mike’s pick: Hotel Barcelona is the kind of wild collaboration that fans of edgy games dream about. Given Goichi Suda’s appreciation for stylish chaos and Hidetaka Suehiro’s style of surreal storytelling, this sidescroller feels like it’s going to deliver a heap of absurdity, and I’m eager to see how far it goes. From what I’ve hear, It promises reality-bending setpieces and some off-the-wall action. I’m just happy to see some Grasshopper Manufacture-style weirdness. Games have gotten too predictable lately, and I hopped off Borderlands 4 out of sheer boredom.
At risk of being labelled a ‘hater’ for my last comment, why is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds generating such positive buzz? Beyond all the non-voiced cameos, the actual racing is only adequate and the pricing is extortionate. Can you tell me what I’m missing in the comments, please?

What’s the best platform for Hades II?
Final Fantasy Tactics review? I’m curious if I’m missing anything by sticking with the PSP version.
I like how Resna got them booty shorts on. That’s not DLC, right?
