Rob’s Pick: There’s a whole lot of memories crammed into Capcom Fighting Collection 2. From arena-based action of the two Power Stone titles, a duo of Capcom vs. SNK games, and oft-forgotten fighters like Project Justice and Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein, there’s not much filler in this compilation.
Speaking of nostalgia, Level 5 has frequently crafted some classics, so I might have to give FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time a go. But if you’re looking for something a bit different, you might want to give the ring-rolling of Aureole – Wings of Hope a try. It’s one of those simple concepts capable of keeping you hooked.

Ryan’s pick: Pure nostalgia takes the wheel this week with Capcom Fighting Collection 2 for me. I’ve never really ever dabbled with the genre competitively at all really except here in there in the arcades, but including rollback netcode for the online play in this series is a pretty cool addition. There’s a lot of games I missed as well, so I think in terms of variety and overall appeal from an arcade throwback perspective this collection has a lot to offer. I completely missed Power Stone so that and its sequel look like a whole lot of fun.
My secondary pick goes to DOOM: The Dark Ages. I’m a bit conflicted with the series in that I have so many really great memories of the series on my PC in the mid 90’s but now that the game visually and story-wise have evolved it all just feels a bit different for me. I mean, I had some fun playing DOOM Eternal but at the same time I found the Serious Sam type kill-em-all encounters to be kind of predictable and preferred the old DOOM model of finding keycards and just blasting your way through levels. I am mainly interested in the new story in that it’s much more fleshed out compared to what we got back in the early PC era. In general, this is a solid pick if you like AAA FPS games and can handle some gore.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): My pick this week is FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time. That is, if it comes out. I refuse to believe this game actually exists until it’s downloaded onto my Nintendo Switch. I’m still fully expecting it to be delayed minutes before it’s meant to release. I’ve been looking forward to this game for way, way too long and had far too many delays along the way. I just hope it’s good. I really want it to be good. For Level-5’s sake if not the fact I just want to play it at this point.
My other pick this week is Monster Train 2. Yes, I know Slay the Spire-likes are overdone and probably on their way out at this point. But of all of the ones I have played (including Slay the Spire itself), Monster Train 1 was the one I enjoyed the most and spent the most time with. I’ve barely touched the sequel at time of writing, but I am looking forward to seeing how it’s been enhanced and built on.

Lists DOOM: The Dark Ages as digital only.

Time to play Power Stone legitimately for a change.
