Rob’s pick: Poor Dogi’s been crushing walls and boulders long enough. With this week’s remaster of Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga, the blue-haired behemoth gets to pummel characters from several of Nihon Falcom’s popular properties. With accessible controls and the inclusion of a support character system, this sounds like a requisite purchase for Falcom fans, even if Popful Mail didn’t make the roster list.

Between my fondness for Fire Emblem-style titles and a twenty-dollar MSRP, I have my eyes on Rise Eterna 2. Sure, the demo might have had rudimentary AI, but I’m hoping that Forever Entertainment used the last eight months to make some improvements and get rid of those trap tiles from the first game. Finally, as an Arkanoid addict, I’ll be giving BALL x PIT a go.

Ryan’s pick: Levity takes the wheel this week with GlitchSPANKR. Slapping things with a large hand on a stick is the exact kind of escapism I’m looking for after grinding things out in Borderlands 4 over the past weeks. It seems like there’s a whole lot of variety in terms of levels and eccentric characters, so I’ll take a dip in the deep end this week and give this a go.

BALL X PIT is an interesting mashup of Arkanoid where you utilize characters to help deflect projectiles back at enemies, mixed with some roguelike elements. This one is on my radar as it seems like one I could work on at a leisurely pace as I typically do with roguelikes. I was just talking with my brother about Battlefield 6 as well this week. We went down memory lane about all the Slim Jim’s he was eating for that Battlefield 4 cross promotion and we made some light promises to play this new one if we have time.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): I’m really quite looking forward to Snoopy & The Great Mystery Club. Do I think it’ll be an absolutely amazing game? No, probably not, but then I don’t need that. All I need is for it to be a celebration of one of my all-time favourite (and most nostalgic) comics of all. And if they got really obscure and threw Faron the Cat in there? Well, that’s a 5/5 simply for the respect they’ve shown the game.

I’m also very much looking forward to Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga. I’m behind on this: I still have to review the Trails in the Sky remake (never travel overseas, the backlog of games is intense), but Ys and Trails? Yeah, that just automatically sounds like a good time to me.

Mike’s pick: Falcom’s back-catalogue is essentially my comfort food, so Ys vs. Trails in the Sky: Alternative Saga is an easy pick for me this week. Dogi finally gets to stop pulverizing inanimate objects and start pulverizing people. Honestly, just seeing Estelle and Adol square up in proper versus mode is probably worth the price of admission alone.

Like Ryan, I could use a laugh or two and GlitchSPANKR. It looks like the kind of goofy, high-energy chaos that’s perfect for blowing off steam after a week of some serious shit going on.
