Rob’s pick: D3 Publisher has been my jam for a few decades and it’s a bit surprising that they don’t have a bigger following, given that they’re behind the Earth Defense Force, Onechanbara, and School Girl/Zombie Hunter games. Now that’s a resume! This week, FULL METAL SCHOOLGIRL sends you into a hundred-story building where you’re tasked with blasting and brawling with clankers. Sure, it’s not the deepest game of 2025 but there’s plenty of action, humor, and weaponry as you fight for the future of humanity.
Even though Keita Takahashi left the franchise twenty years ago, I’m still interested in Once Upon A KATAMARI. Sure, Namco fumbled with Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots recently, but I’ll give them another shot to redeem themselves with another revitalization. Let’s hope developer RENGAME provides the subtle social commentary and eccentric soundtrack that fans are expecting.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): It’s been quite a while since D3 fully indulged its D3-iness. Remember the days of Onechanbara and School Girl/Zombie Hunter? I miss those days. Those days were just the best. Incidentally, I wrote this before checking what Rob wrote, and it amuses me that we agree on this. Anyhow. Full Metal Schoolgirl will be my jam, no doubt. So that’s my big pick for the week.
On a very different note, I am very much looking forward to giving Tormented Souls 2 a whirl. The first one was an excellent throwback horror game. It had its frustrating quirks, but the aesthetics, mood, and style were all incredible and I loved almost everything about it. I can’t wait to see what the developers will be able to achieve by taking the feedback on board for the sequel.

Ryan’s pick: Once Upon a Katamari is the clear winner this week for me as sometimes you want to just roll over things and collect them as you go. The game is as simple as that, and the eccentric characters and music only help to set this series apart from other games. When you first start there’s going to be a bit of a learning curve as you learn how soon you can roll over certain items of different sizes. This series is highly recommended as it’s pretty light-hearted and easy to get into and enjoy quickly.
My honorable mention goes to FULL METAL SCHOOLGIRL for the same reason that the latest Katarmari grabbed my interest in that it looks like you can just jump in and immediately get some instant satisfaction. My expectations in terms of story aren’t very high, but being able to run around as robotic heroines that shoot and melee overworked corporate cyborg slaves is right around the level of brain activity I need this week. Blow everything up is also my favorite game mechanic of all time, so this one looks like it will make me feel right at home.

All three Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth games aren’t bundled for a discounted price?
Whatupwiththat?
Don’t sleep on Bounty Star, gentlemen.
