Rob’s pick: If you’re in the mood for something spooky this week, Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake is probably worth your time. This recreation of the 2003 horror classic looks to keep all of the unnerving frights of the original while giving the visuals an update.

As you follow twin sisters lost in a menacing village, quiet dream is intermittently broken up by using the Camera Obscura, which blends the timing of a Soulslike parry with the framing of Pokémon Snap. Yeah, that description does do the game justice, so check out the slow-burn terror for yourself. Maybe try out the PlayStation 2 original before dropping fifty spirit points on the new one, though.

Ryan’s pick: The 2D dungeon rpg THYSIASTERY gets the official stamp of approval this week as I’m still chasing that horror high that RE: Requiem gave me for a few playthroughs. The thing I really like about the visual style of the game is that it is done in a retro-style using some of the popular Gameboy-esque color palettes. To add a little flavor to the gameplay this one is also a roguelike, so procedurally generated levels can help the dungeon diving fresh. DRPGs aren’t for everyone, but I think that this one looks pretty well done.

I wanted to also give a brief nod to Marathon as over the years I have come to enjoy playing PvPvE extraction shooters with my brother. The genre as a whole for me has proven to be a typical mix of both highs and lows depending on the run, so I’m pretty interested to see what Bungie has to offer with this one as the art direction and guns look impressive. The ability to join maps as a scavenger reminds me a lot of Escape from Tarkov, so I’m definitely curious to see if any other parallels can be drawn from that game and ARC Raiders.

Matt S’ pick (editor, DigitallyDownloaded): Project Zero (sorry, “Fatal Frame”) 2 is my favourite horror game of all time, bar none, so naturally the remaster of it is my pick of this week. Beautiful, serene, tragic, horrific and ethereal: these are all words that describe Project Zero 2, and where most other horror games aim for the grotesque and hyper-violent, Koei’s masterpiece has always been an elevated alternative. I can’t wait to see how it looks and plays on new devices.

I’m also keen to get stuck into Pokopia. I’ve been playing Pokémon from the very first generation and it’s never let me down. The fact this game is the highest rated Pokémon of all time (at time of writing) has me all kinds of intrigued.
