New Releases for the Week of May 29, 2011

Sure, this week’s inventory of new releases may seem meager, but when you consider that the talents of both Xena: Warrior Princess‘s Lucy Lawless and Treasure Island author Robert Louis Stevenson have contributed to this week’s titles, there’s no denying the sheer amount of star power involved. Unfortunately, fame doesn’t extend to Point Blank clone, Wicked Monsters Blast. Longtime recluses Dr. Don and Dr. Dan couldn’t be bothered to make even a fleeting cameo.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: Generic murky-brownness aside, Hunted‘s mix of medieval horror and dungeon-crawling action has me intrigued. The interviews with the team lead me to believe that a lot of love went into creating little details to flesh out the world – let’s just hope they didn’t forget to concentrate on the fundamentals while they were at it.

DesertEagle’s Pick: While I’d love to recommend BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II, the lack of online play (especially on the 3DS) is concerning. That said, I’m looking forward to helping E’lara and Caddoc find that elusive artifact in Hunted: Demon’s Forge. Like my colleague SeanNOLA, I’m eager for a good dungeon skulk.

Samurage’s Pick: I like Bethesda-  given the great work they do, and the pitiful amount of options this week (and of course how cool the demons look) I’d be down to give Hunted: The Demon’s Forge a try. I may wait a week or so to see how reviews for it go though, since I’m in California getting ready for E3.

About Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Just like Sage, I’ll wait for the Hunted reviews.

  2. So Hunted: The Demon’s Forge is a medieval Army of Two, then?

  3. No online for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II? Didn’t the first PSP one have it or was it just ad-hoc?

I’ve never played any of the Back to the Future games? Are they on console at all?

    • They are on PS3 as well as Windows and OS X. Give them a try, I think they are pretty fun 😉

  5. BioShock 2: Minerva’s Den just coming out for PC? I thought that was out for a while.

    • 9 months after it hit consoles its finally coming out. I want to know what the delay was for.

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. 360 since its Unreal 3 engine.

  7. Ewww, not a good week for games. I’ll pass on Hunted. Videos don’t do much for me.

  8. Skeleton headshot at 2:55 made me pre-order.

  9. I don’t know why it deleted my link. Let’s try this again:

  10. I’m still not sold on Hunted. Maybe once the review hit, I’ll be more interested.

    • I feel the same. I always worry when reviews don’t hit until launch day. It’s like the publishers are scared of something.

  11. Wow, all three picked the same game? Has this ever happened before?

  12. I liked the little space invader icons for people. Very cool.

Oh and nothing for me this week.

  13. Where’s Karnov’s pick?

Does you guys post Mac releases ever?

  14. I like now how releases are so easy to find now. Site looks great.

  15. Blankas Electric Anus

Point Blank was the shit back in the day.

  16. I heard good things about Outland. Hopefully, PSN will be functional.

  17. Here’s why Blaz won’t have touchscreen controls:

    http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/26307/news/street-fighter-3ds-touchscreen-controls-slammed-by-beat-em-up-dev/

“Super Street Fighter IV 3D enables players to pull off special moves by tapping the touchscreen but according to Yoshimichi Mori, hardcore fighting fans such as himself aren’t impressed.

“Super Street Fighter IV 3D has easy special move buttons,” Mori told Official Nintendo Magazine. “As hardcore fighting fans we don’t think that’s right, so we chose to display a list of combos [for BlazBlue 3DS] instead of easy attack buttons.”

Of course Super Street Fighter IV 3D isn’t the only game guilty of making its game easier to play for newcomers. Dead Or Alive Dimensions – out this Friday – also makes use of touchscreen controls.”

No reason why there’s no online.

Why doesn’t Karnov give a pick anymore?

  19. NumbfromtheRum

The screenshot really shows off NOLA’s concern’s well.

  20. How’s Cali, Sage? Hanging with the poop jokers?

  21. Being both the last to market and the only one without online is going to do a number on BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II’s sales on the 3DS.

    • true that, but I have to admit I prefer Blaz’s art to DOA. I’m a sucker for every 2D fighter.

      • You really cant compare 2D hand drawn fighters with 3D polygon ones. Apples and oranges.

      • I’m a sucker for fighting games in-general. If there’s a good one out, I want to play it(or at least get it once the price drops).

The Anime art style that BlazBlue uses works very well for the series. Because of it, I find that BlazBlue’s characters’ personalities shine better than a lot of other fighting games do. Even something as simple as Taokaka’s idle animation, for example, differentiates her completely from the rest of BB’s fighters. I can only imagine what a new Guilty Gear would be like if it got the BB treatment. Arc System Works did get the GG rights back recently, so we might actually find out. BBxGG, please.

  22. Is it correct to like a publisher or should one say a developer?

    • Well, developers are directly responsible for a game, but a publisher will sign developers that they believe in, so either is correct, IHO.

  23. Nothing for me this week 🙁

  24. If Hunted gets 8’s and up, I’ll pick it up.

  25. Nothing too exciting this week.

  26. Maybe Hunted, but I expect reviews in the 7’s/C’s…

  27. No WiiWare/DSiWare/Virtual Console this week?

  28. What are you going to review this week?
