New Releases for the Week of June 17th, 2012

New Releases for the Week of June 17th, 2012From Brave’s radiant auburn locks, Hulk’s emerald skin to Mr. Freeze’s azure attire, a large number of licensed characters color this week’s batch of titles. For those not keen on the vibrancy of these colorful IP’s, the release of Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor looks to add a few shades of gun metal gray and olive drab to the spectrum of new releases. Hopefully, the game can give our televisions and monitors a reprieve from the onslaught of cheery vibrancy.

DesertEagle’s Pick: By blending Game Freak’s monster collecting with Nobunaga’s Ambition feudal, Sengoku-era based strategy, Pokémon Conquest might just be the year’s unlikliest crossover. As such, it’s also the game this week I’ll be powerless to resist. In the meme-icized words of Ash Ketchum, “Pokémon, I Choose You!”. Also– Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles.

Pokemon Conquest, New Releases

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I have a serious problem. I love card games, but I hate other people that love card games. There are probably four conveniently located hobby shops near me that have regular tournaments, but the smell is a little overwhelming for me. That’s why I dig the Magic:The Gathering: Duel of the Planeswalker series so much. Sure, Magic isn’t my favorite card game ever (that is a three-way tie between Battletech, Tomb Raider and Marvel Super Hero Squad) but the fact that I don’t have to go to my local shop to set up a game or listen to someone drone on about the difference in 1st and 4th edition Shivan Dragons might make it the most enjoyable way to play. That is, at least until Jeremy and I finish our Skype Battletech setup, using our Eye of Judgement stands!

Magic the Gathering Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012

Samurage’s Pick: Quantum Conundrum for me! I tried this out at E3, and even though it reminds me of Portal, with its sense of humor and simple controls, the physics puzzles enjoy a hearty helping of ingenuity and creative dynamics which will leave players considering new ways to utilize their furniture and fixtures. This game is massively enjoyable and worth checking out.

  1. Wait, you didn’t get enough brown and grays with your FPS, Deagle?

  2. Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles comes with 4 tables right?

  3. Pokémon Conquest I want to like you, but I always found the Nobunaga’s Ambition games kind of boring.

  4. Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles it is. You guys haven’t had the Zen folk on for a podcast recently. What’s up with that?

  5. To be perfectly honest, I’m burned out on the LEGO games. Unless this one offers something radically different, I’ll wait for it to drop in price.

  6. Pokemon Conquest seems like a pretty cool idea. Might have to get it.

  7. Strangest title this week has got to be Tiny & Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers. I don’t even want to imagine.

  8. Avengers Chronicles for me this week.

  9. I’m thinking about getting Magic: The Gathering-Duels of the Planeswalkers, but is there really any difference between the Magic games.

    • They’re just updates with new cards and some graphical flourishes. It’s sorta like buying a new Madden game, but for cards.

      • Ok, cool. I can stick with the $5 version I downloaded on impulse then never got around to playing, then.

  10. NOLA, you can put up with a little nerd funk? How the hell did you manage E3?

    • e3 isn’t Comicon. There are enough professionals wearing deodorant and aftershave that the unwashed basement set can be overlooked. I don’t think I could survive Comicon or PAX. The funk would be too much.

      • Let me tell you about PAX east.

I was waiting in line to get a look at Aliens: Colonial Marines. Two guys wearing trench coats and sweating profusely (it was hot as hell) had such a bad smell that I actually gagged while standing in line. I tried not to think about for a few minutes, but then the urge to throw up would swell in my head. After dealing with this for 45 minutes, I finally throw in the towel and never got to see the game that was my reason for going to the show.

My friend told me next time to take something sweat and rub in on my top lip.

        • Damn, that’s some crazy shit. They must have worked on growing that kind of funk for months. I blame Warcraft.

      • Aww Comic Con isn’t THAT bad, you just gotta hold your breath! Jk!

        • Ive heard it’s pretty horrendous. Best to go with a cold you you don’t smell anything.

  11. I guess I’m the only one who still loves Lego games. Batman 2, it is.

  12. I need to learn how to play Magic one of the days. Sounds like fun.

  13. Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles. The Zen Games are the perfect way to waste a Saturday afternoon.

  14. Fuedal warlord and Pikachu?

    Sign me the hell up.

  15. I preordered the Brave game since it came with a movie ticket. Hopefully, it will be good. Has anyone played it or heard anything about it?

  16. Marvel Pinball: Avengers Chronicles is a XBLA I can get excited about.

  17. I never miss a Pokemon game.
