New Releases for the Week of May 20th, 2012

Whether players prefer to jump on the back of a beast in order to  defeat a menacing monster in Dragon’s Dogma or use Future Soldier‘s Drone Crawler to designate and disarm their targets, this week’s new releases allow death to be administered in a number of unique ways. For players who don’t get their kicks from stepping into the grim reaper’s polished black boots, they can always scare the wits out of people by creating a frighteningly formidable thrill ride in RollerCoaster Tycoon 3D.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Blame my insatiable lust for high-tech weaponry, but I haven’t missed a Tom Clancy title since the the original Rainbow Six was released thirteen years ago. While the Ghost Recon series has moved from taut, tactical simulation to nimble, cover-based shooter, I won’t be able resist the urge to don some optical camo and get some quality gunsmithing time in this week. Tangos better lay low against my Future Soldier.

Jeremy’s Pick:
Keep an eye open for the PlayStation Move title Sorcery from The Workshop and Sony Santa Monica. This wand-waggler was received with some enthusiasm when it was shown at E3 2010, as a high-profile example of how the PS Move could attract a hardcore crowd to motion gaming. It fell off the radar for a bit, but will ensorcel store shelves next week. PS Move enthusiasts like me will definitely want to learn all its arcane secrets, even if early whispers speak of framerate issues…

SeanNOLA’s Pick:
Last week on the podcast, DEagle asked if I had played the Dragon’s Dogma demo. I had not. “But it seems like it would be right up your alley” he tells me, so I tried out. Turns out, that sagacious bald man knows what he’s talking about! Someone ought to give him a blog or something, where he can tell people whether or not they should play videogames…

BlueSwim’s Pick: Aficionados of Mario Sports titles should start searching for their neglected, dust-covered 3DS right about now. Mario and his pals are channeling their inner Andy Roddick and hitting the courts once again; this time in 3D. Mario Tennis Open packs a cast of seventeen characters and, more importantly, online multiplayer. Even if the flavor of the gameplay tastes a bit familiar, the addition of online play should spice things up.

Samurage’s Pick: This week’s releases don’t do much for me.  Though a Tom Clancy fan, I’m more into the Splinter Cell series, and Mario games-like this week’s Mario Tennis Open-are usually good for entertainment, but I’m just not invested in them.  With time to spare, I’ll be playing some games that have been sitting in my backlog for far too long and getting in some Diablo 3 time.

  1. That some in the top pic can be rendered in game. I’m thinking a cinematic.

  2. HighPriestPepper

3 new 3DS games? Every week should be like this. Actually, only two have a chance at being good it looks like.

    Mario Tennis Open for me.

  3. I take if from the appearance of Men in Black: Alien Crisis that MiB3 is out soon.

  4. Why is DiRT Showdown just listed for PC, I played the 360 demo, so I know it’ coming out for the Xbox.

  5. I figured out the formula.

Deagle pick what games goes “boom” the loudest.
NOLA like monsters, Sonic, and Dinoaurs.
Sage is a sucker for Nazis, Ninjas, and Pirates.
Blue looks the games with the boobage.

  6. I’m guess at least one pick for Dragon’s Dogma from these guys.

    That’s what I’ll be grabbing.

  7. Can I just say that Ghost Recon isn’t my kind of game. But if it was getting Coco to do the advertisements could have totally turned me off.

  8. Ive been waiting for Sorcery for so long I’m almost not even interested anymore. It would be like if the Wii finally came out with a Star War light saber fighting game.

  9. Time to charge the 3DS for Mario Tennis Open. Haven’t touched it since beating Super Mario 3D Land.

  10. I really haven’t seen much about Future Soldier, but I know they wanted to make less “yo-bro” and make it a little tactical.

  11. Was going to say is that an actual screenshots or art?

  12. Future Soldier is this week’s clear winner. After seeing videos and playing the beta, I can’t wait.

  13. “Someone ought to give him a blog or something, where he can tell people whether or not they should play videogames”

    Bravo, Sean!

Is there a connection between bald guys and gaming. Cheapy, Deagle, Totilo, the MLG guy. I need to stop playing or get a controller that sprays out Rogaine.

  14. I want to know why Deagle is “sagacious”. What’s going on a TG’s HQ?!?!

  15. I’m really interested in Dragon’s Dogma, but I’m not going to lie. I won’t be buying this at launch. Plus, Why no multiplayer, Capcom. You no love me?

  16. Glad to see Jeremy pic. I have to agree, Sorcery it is!

  17. I might get Sorcery. $40 right?

  18. The Lawman gets to pick and I 100% agree with his first choice.

  19. I am on the Tom Clancy diet this week, ready for some Ghost Recon!

  20. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, here I come.

  21. I’ll probably rent Sorcery this week.

  22. How can any 3DS owner reject Mario Tennis Open?

  23. Too many on-rails scenes for GRFS took me outta the element – my thoughts here
