New Releases for the Week of November 18th, 2012

Hitman Absolution

From the return of the beloved mouse in Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion to Agent 47’s fifth outing in Hitman: Absolution, this week’s roster of new releases sees the return of several familiar faces. Naturally returning favorites aren’t relegated to rodents and bald mercenaries- Microsoft has broken up their popular Kinect Sports 2 collection into individual, downloadable events. So while those interested in the full gamut of simulated athletics might want to pick up Kinect Sports: Ultimate Collection this Black Friday, those yearning for around of Darts vs. Zombies can go the piecemeal route.

Robert’s Pick: If you’re able to get your hands on Wii U hardware, then New Super Mario Bros. U and ZombiU are requisite pick ups, both title offering experiences you won’t find on any other console. For the other 99.9% of us, I recommend a purchase of Persona 4 Golden. Although the game is a port of 2008 PS2 games, Altus’ adaptations are surprisingly adept. For this iteration, players can expect two new social links, events, difficulty levels, voice acting, as well as lightening-fast load times, making this the definitive version of an already incredible JRPG.

Persona 4 Golden

Jeremy’s Pick: Iteration is a hallmark of the current console generation, and speaking generally, it has worked out pretty well. Sequels are an opportunity to expand on original concepts and hammer out a few of the weaker ones. That’s the main reason I’m interested to see how Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two and Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion (Disney Interactive Studios) have fared in the series’ sophomore outings. Moving the franchise onto platforms that outpower the Wii (PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS) will give the development teams a little more breathing room for assets and production value, and designer Warren Spector says he heard complaints about Epic Mickey loud and clear. I still dig the concept behind Epic Mickey, and I’m interested to see how the Mickey + Oswald multiplayer and PlayStation Move implementation turned out, along with the stereoscopic 3D in Power of Illusion. Hot dog!

  1. You guys like a crap on Nintendo whenever you can. I’m sure more than a tenth of a percent of gamers are getting a Wii U.

    • Well, most stores I’ve heard are getting 4-8 consoles in, so actually it’s probably closer to 99.98%.

I didn’t think it was a dig at Nintendo, just a comment about availability. Robert did give two Wii U games a pseudo pick.

  2. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for me. PS3 version. Wish there was cross buy.

  3. I’m on board for Persona 4 Golden, a free version of Jet Set Radio, and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

  4. Hitman Absolution might we worth a go if there are any deals. I still need to get the Sniper demo. Is that GS only?

  5. Agent 47 always looks constipated, but I like killing and playing dress up, so Absolution is on my purchase list.

  6. Persona 4 Golden sound pretty well, Golden. If I can get it with a B2G1 Free it’s mine.

BTW- I noticed Target carried Persona 4 Arena. Never seen Atlus product at a big generic chain before.

  7. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for Wii U and Power of Illusion for 3DS.

Has Nintendo announced any connection between their products. So if you buy both stages or items are unlocked? I’d love to see that for these two games.

  8. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

    Don’t fool me twice, Spector.

  9. I should be getting my Wii U+ New Super Mario Bros. U on Monday or Tuesday, if Best Buy doesn’t mess up.

  10. Where everyone else’s pick?

    • I was deep in the heart of Govt secrecy when the call went out, but I probably would have pointed out that The Walking Dead finishes up this week, and OH MY GOD PLAY THAT GAME!

  11. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two for the PS3 because of the Move Support.

  12. Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper for Wii U review this week?

  13. So anyone picking up a WiiU this Sunday?

  14. I was told I could pick up my Wii U today. Best Buy lied. They won’t release them until tomorrow. I’m so passed.
