New Releases for the Week of March 18th, 2012

When did March become the new October? Between three Silent Hill releases (last week’s Downpour, this week’s HD Collection, and Book of Memories for the Vita at the end of the month), an installment in the Resident Evil series, and even a Ninja Gaiden entry that is so blood-soaked that it makes Spatterhouse seem like Wall-E, it almost feels like its time to start costume shopping. Save for Rayman 3 HD and Kinect Rush: A Disney-Pixar Adventure‘s vibrant color palettes, there’s little indication that Spring is arriving this week beyond a possible Easter Bunny cameo in Paws & Claws Pampered Pets Resort.

DesertEagle’s Pick: Although I used to take the position of devil’s advocate when discussing the Armored Core series with former Tech-Gamer and now full-time Rockin’ Android Adam “TideGear” Milecki, that never stopped me from buying every entry in From Software’s long-running Mecha sim. Hopefully, the promises of strategic combat and smaller unit sizes will deliver the hard-“core” title, I’ve always yearned for. Also- Sumioni: Demon Arts.

SeanNOLA’s Pick: I’ve only ever played an Armored Core game once: it was Armored Core 2, I was at a friend’s house, and I hated every minute of it. I’ve heard nothing but great things about it ever since. I’m going to give Armored Core 5 a shot. I love From Software, I love mech combat, and I love TideGear, so what have I got to lose? If it doesn’t pan out, I can always fall back on The Assassination of Leon Scott Kennedy.

BlueSwim’s Pick: My pick this week comes down to one thing and one thing only; the demo for Dead Or Alive 5. As such, my vote goes to Ninja Gaiden 3 (the only way to get the DOA5 demo). Slicing and dicing ninja has never been better than it is in the 3D Ninja Gaiden games and I’m hopeful that this will continue with Gaiden 3. This is also the first 100% new Ninja Gaiden game since the departure of Tomonobu Itagaki from Team NINJA. As for the DOA5 demo, I’m very interested in seeing how it ends up being since I’m somewhat nervous about the changes being made to the DOA format, especially after the changes made in Dimensions were to the game’s detriment.

About Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Nice shoutout to Karnov. What’s he been up to? Why don’t you have him on the podcast anymore?

As for me I loved NG1, hated the cheapness of NG2, and I’ll waiti and see for NG3.

    • Karnov, the game? Tell me they’re making a remake.

No price on Rayman 3 HD. But if it’s $10, I may have to grab it.

    • eIGHTbALL wins “most dedicated Tech-Gaming” fan this week for his intricate TideGear knowledge. Bravo, sir.

      • Thank you. My mailbox shows that I subscribed in May 2008, so I’m one of the older members (I assume)

BTW if you have any swag to get rid off, I’ll gladly take it off your hands! 😉

  2. Wait Capcom has already announced day-one DLC for Operation Raccoon City?

That’s kind of shitty. What do you think, Blue?

    • I don’t like it one bit. Considering how Capcom is now, I can’t say I didn’t see it coming. Capcom games should have Capcom character-themed bottles of K-Y Jelly as preorder bonuses.

  3. OOOHHH!! I’m excited about Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City! 😀

  4. Are you sure Sumioni: Demon Arts is coming out for the Vita? I haven’t seen anything on the game and I follow the Vita lists closely.

  5. “If it doesn’t pan out, I can always fall back on The Assassination of Leon Scott Kennedy.”

    By the coward Jill Valentine?

  6. I heard good thinks bout Dirt 3. What’s in the complete edition that’s worth caring about?

  7. The only DLC I want is a new ending for Mass Effect 3. C’mon Bioware, you can’t leave me like that.

  8. We’ll see if Sine Mora is worth $15, but it does look like a cool little shmup.

    • let’s hope they fixed the color of enemy fire.

Light blue bullets on a light blue background seems like a really bad idea.

    • Looks cool, but not worth $15. I can wait for a price drop even though I love shooting games.

  9. Total War: Shogun 2: Fall of the Samurai can just take my money, spend the week with me and forget to call me…forever. And I’d still be happy about the relationship we shared.

Seriously, if none of you guys have played Total War: Shogun 2, you need to. It is nothing less that incredible.

  10. I liked the console AC games. The PSP ones? Not so much. I see Gamestop and Amazon have two different bonuses. Man, which to choose?

  11. This Friday, I’m getting Kid Icarus Uprising. Been a while since a good 3DS came out.

  12. Cabbage Patch Wino

Both Armored Core and Sumioni: Demon Arts look cool.

  13. I saw one early review for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City that gave the game a 3/10. Yikes.

  14. NG3, don’t try to fool me with your fancy blood. Without Itagaki, I’m skeptical.

  15. Once again, Blue comes through.

I didn’t know that NG3 came with a DoA demo. Even though I’m sure this will come to Xbox Live, it’s enough to get me to Gamefly the game.

    • Sadly, the demo will be download-only and not on the disc. Places like Amazon and GameStop have the DOA5 demo as a preorder bonus. 🙁

      • Do you know how many character? I don’t want to get it if there’s less than 3 characters to choose.

Blue or Deagle, what about a DOA4 preview?

        • The preorder bonus version of the DOA5 demo comes with two characters. Hitomi and Hayabusa for the 360 and Ayane and Hayate on the PS3. The Collector’s Edition of Ninja Gaiden 3 has an exclusive demo featuring all four fighters.

I’d love to do a preview. Just a matter of getting my hands on a 360 code. *Seductively winks at Tecmo Koei’s PR company*

  16. Actually some good games coming out this week. I might have to get Armored Core V depending on the reviews.

  17. No Mass Effect 3 review from you guys? Is anyone playing it?

    • I hopped on the Mass Effect train late. Just finshing up 2, will probably wait to play 3 until the internet hooplah dies down – maybe over the summer.

  18. FYI all. I saw Silent Hill HD Collection at two stores today.

  19. I’m looking forward to Kid Icarus: Uprising. I hope you guys review it.
