New Releases for the Week of July 15th, 2012

Tony Hawk Pro Skater HDFrench critic Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr once wrote, “The more things change, the more they stay the same”. While the novelist surely didn’t use the epigram to refer to a medium which wouldn’t be created for another hundred years, the quote seems like an accurate way to summarize this week’s new releases. From a return to the beloved half-pipe in Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD to skulking through Raccoon City in Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles and The Umbrella Chronicles, progress looks a lot like the past, albeit in 1080p.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Collection

DesertEagle’s Pick: After nearly a year and a half at retail channels, the 3DS library has grown to include most of the major genres, with fighters, racers, and even a shmup or three offered to owners. This week, the platform’s dearth of dungeon crawling experiences gets a quick fix from n-Space (Geist, Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas). After playing a bit of Heroes of Ruin at E3, all the requisite elements seem to be in place: a quartet of classes, 80,000 pieces of loot of unearth, and the ability for your 3DS owning friends to tag along on the expedition.

Heroes of Ruin

BlueSwim’s Pick: PC gamers, I’m not sure how you couldn”t have crossed paths with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic at some point. BioWare’s two epic RPG’s are among the Star Wars game elite because of their incredible branching stories (the first game’s being the better of the two), lovable characters, and addictive combat. Reminiscing about KOTOR makes me want to grab my Xbox copies of both games and play through them again. That’s no small feat mind you, as you can get three digits worth of hours out of each if you set out to see everything the light and dark sides of the force have to offer. If, by some chance, you haven’t played these games before, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II PC Bundle Pack should be on your shopping list, especially since it’s only $20. Buy it…meatbags.

  1. I didn’t even know there was a sequel for Die Hard Trilogy.

  2. Another week of Capcom milking things. When will they ever stop?

  3. FYI: S-E put out a demo for Heroes of Ruin in the eShop.

  4. Dyad looks really cool and wonderfully trippy. It will probably get my money.

  5. I might buy the Birdman’s game next week.

  6. Some Vita games would be nice.

  7. I might have to pick Heroes of Ruin.

  8. Pretty crappy week for releases.

  9. I’ll try Dyad if there’s a demo.

  10. Nothing for me this week.

  11. Save your money this week cause its my birthday!

    • Two words: Steam Sale!

    • My birthday’s this week, too! Happy Birthday! 😀

      • Happy Birthday, Blue!

        How many candles?

      • Happy B-Day, Blue!

      • May Sailor Venus pay you a birthday visit.

      • Happy birthday guys. Have a good one but don’t get too drunk.

      • I hope you get to wrestle with a Cammie cos player for your birthday.

        • Have a great day, Blue. Let us know if you got any new games.

          • Thank you for the birthday wishes, everybody! You’ve also given me some ideas for my wedding night, you know, after I find “the one”. LOL! 😀

This year, 26 candles will be on my (no doubt, Funfetti) birthday cake. Time sure flies.

There will be games, mainly because I point my family in the right direction around gift-giving occasions (Kabuki Warriors…Never forget). In fact, I’m dusting off my 3DS even as we speak. ;D

          • Dude, you 26 don’t even think about settling down for another 4-5 more years. Most girls will ruin your gaming habit.

BTW- I know your going to reach out over the internet and kill me Sage, but it’s happened to me and 3 of my friends. Cool gaming girls are HARD to find.

          • Funfetti? That’s a new one for me. Like someone else said, stay single.

  12. Any of you guys (or girl) at SDCC?

  13. I’ll try the Heroes of Ruin demo.

  14. So Tony Hawk us really $15? I don’t see myself paying a penny over $10.
