New Game Releases: September 12th-18th, 2014

Fairy Fencer F (1)

From special editions for KickBeat and Shadowrun: Dragonfall to sequels in the Theatrhythm and Naruto Shippuden franchises, this week’s list of new releases is filled with familiar titles. Fortunately, a few new properties are emerging for players craving a bit of novelty. Fibbage (from the creators of You Don’t Know Jack) is a party game where players can use their phone or tablets as controllers while Flockers sees Team 17 taking a brief respite from the Worms series to craft a next-gen puzzler.

Robert’s Pick: Uniting the talents of Yoshitaka Amano (art for Speed Racer, Final Fantasy), character designer Tsunako (Hyperdimension Neptunia series), and the sonic sorcery of Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger), this week’s release of Fairy Fencer F brings together a dream team of noted Japanese developers. And while supergroups can sporadically fail to live up to their elevated expectations, Fencer does an admirable job, providing players with a fluid battle system and characters that manage to transcend their tropey first impressions. Save for the frame rate which can take a disheartening drop in dungeons, Fairy Fencer F looks good, plays well, and should engross role-playing fans for a thirty-hour span.

  1. Number of consecutive weeks that a loli is the new release art: 1

    🙂

  2. Fairy Fencer F for me this week.

Shouldn’t you list the collector’s edition, even though its sold out?

  3. I’m not a huge FF fan but I really liked Theatrhythm Final Fantasy on 3DS. Might pick up Curtain Call.

  4. Planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet looks pretty cool. Might get it.

  5. Meet the Robinsons can hardly be called a classic. More of a PC forgettable.

  6. I hope Robert reviews Air Conflicts: Vietnam. Air Sims for consoles always get overlooked.

  7. I’m calling a 83 on Fairy Fencer F. Sounds like Roberts kind of game.

  8. Flockers seems cool, but not at that price.
