New Game Releases: July 13th-19th, 2017

Save for the retail appearance of Aerea, a music themed, role-playing game, every other release will arrive digitally, saving players a trip to the store or at least the mailbox. While that’s been the growing norm for PC as well as Sony and Microsoft consoles, it’s interesting to see Nintendo fully embracing the delivery system, with no less than five titles available near-instantly on the Switch.

Robert’s Pick: As a big Ghosts ‘N Goblins fan growing up, I immediately fell for Maldita Castilla when I first played it. Juan Antonio Becerra aka Locomalito largely channeled the feeling of the Capcom classic with his effort, while adding a healthy amount of Spanish lore. Although it remains a free download and any interested players should give it a go, anyone interested in giving back should seek out Cursed Castilla EX, which is arriving on the 3DS this week. Like its inspiration, Castilla is an unflinchingly challenging game, yet rarely feels unfair, demanding the type of old-school mastery that missing from many contemporary titles.

  1. Damn, Terry is killing a guy this week instead of any moe girl.

Is everything OK, Robert? We can talk you, know?

  2. I’ll giver the free version of Maldita Castilla a try. First time I heard of it. I’m also a GnG fan. Its the Dark Souls of the 80s. 😉

  3. I kind of wish that Cursed Castilla EX came out for the Switch instead. At $12 I would have bought it.

  4. God, it’s been forever since I played a Fatal Fury game.

  5. Not a single god damn thing worth buying this week.

  6. Do you plan on reviewing Fallen Legion?
