New Game Releases: May 18th-24th, 2017

Understandingly, you’re probably eager to play Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, the remake of 1992’s Fire Emblem Gaiden, a title that was only released in Japan. But between the lack of dual audio voiceover and a season pass that’s more expensive than the actual game, there are a few decisions destined to rub hardcore fans the wrong way. Fortunately, that’s not the only tactical experience in town, with both Disgaea 5 complete and Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception offering gratification through grid-based battles.

Robert’s Pick: With four strategy role-playing games released this week, I have but one thing to say- It’s a great time to be alive. And while Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, Chroma Squad, and Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception are all fine choice, it’s the Switch iteration of Disgaea 5 Complete that get my pick of the week. I’ve been playing my import copy of D5C since launch, and can state it’s the unadulterated experience, bundling the 2015 title with all of the DLC onto one tiny card or moderately sized download. Anyone with a Switch, an interest in the franchise, and a hundred hours of recreational time is urged to check it out.
