Whether you favor fighting or romancing this week’s schedule of new game releases has something to pique your interest. For brawlers, Injustice 2, The King of Fighters ’95, Akiba’s Beat and Garou: Mark of the Wolves are poised to deliver a potent dose of pugnaciousness. Meanwhile, Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds has you seeking romance in the old capital, extending a reimagining of the PlayStation 2 otome visual novel.

Robert’s Pick: I’m always been a sucker for setting, whether it’s the exotic backdrops for James Bond, or the architectural authenticity of the Assassin’s Creed series. Given that Akihabara extends the world’s primary otaku-opia, offering copious amount of games, anime, figurines, tasty food, idol worship and maid costumes, its little wonder than I’m drawn to any game that uses Electric Town as its locale. This week’s release of Akiba’s Beat might not lack the over-the-top merriment of its clothes-shredding predecessors, but looks to make up for that shortcoming by doubling down on gameplay. With an unmistakable Persona-esque vibe albeit with real-time action, Acquire’s latest confronts the concept that fan-service is a requirement for success.

About Robert Allen

Since being a toddler, Robert Allen has been immersed in video games, anime, and tokusatsu. Currently, his days are spent teaching at two southern California colleges. But his evenings and weekends are filled with STGs, RPGs, and action titles and well at writing for Tech-Gaming since 2007.

  1. Jay is the Name

If Akiba’s Beat took out the clothes ripping to make sure you aren’t a vampire, then I expect it to fail hard. Its like Senren Kagura game where they keep all their clothes on and teach you math.

  2. Hey, Cooking Mama is alive and well!

  3. Prediction: The Surge is going to bomb hard. There’s almost no marketing push behind the game. No one’s talking about it online. If I hasn’t seen the name, thought WTF was that- and googled it, I would have never known about it.

  4. Princess Sakura

My friends wife nails Cooking Mama cosplay.

  5. After Injustice’s problem filled launch, ill wait to buy it this time. Lesson learned.

No PC version of Injustice 2 or did you leave it out accidently?

    • They said they might create a PC version.

So if you’re interested wait on this. If they make a PC port, then you’re fine. If not this will drop in price soon enough.
