New Game Releases: February 4th-10th, 2016

Arslan The Warriors of Legend (1)

While it’s refreshing to see franchise like Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm and Warriors variants shirk the confines of consoles, PC ports of high-profile games aren’t a guaranteed slam dunk. Both publishers have struggled to deliver iterations that have met player expectations- with both sub-standard framerates and adaptations from last-gen hardware being all too common. Hopefully, these title will buck the trend. But if they don’t, exclusives like XCOM 2 are here to soften the blow of disappointment.

Robert’s Pick: Sure, at first glance, Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki) evokes Berzerk, in both setting and the occasional depiction of gratuitous violence. But look closer and you’ll find that the manga and anime shares even more similarity with Game of Thrones. Both are dark fantasy where fate isn’t guided by a single unstoppable hero, but a messy tangle of conflicted, flawed individuals. Although that might not seem like an advantageous ingredient for a musuo recipe, Omega Force’s games have been in need of new narrative. Hopefully, the release of Arslan: The Warriors of Legend delivers a fresh impetus to back up all the hack-and-slashing.

Gonçalo’s Pick: A few years ago, if you told me the XCOM reboot would be just as good if not better than the originals I wouldn’t have believed you. However, lo and behold, the game was a success with critics and gamers alike and we’re getting a sequel. XCOM was a pleasant surprise when it released and all signs point towards its sequel being even better.

  1. Slow week for 3DS. At least there’s sidebob this week.

  2. Because who doesn’t love “Sidebob”

  3. XCOM 2. Hopefully, you’ll review it even if there’s no little girls in the game.

(I’m kidding, as least the part about the little girls)

  4. How have the previous Ultimate Ninja Storm games ran on PC? I haven’t played any.

  5. Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, but only after a price drop.

  6. Resident Evil 4 really wasn’t already available for the Wii U? Maybe I’m mixed up because it’s been out for every piece of hardware. I think my Keurig has a version.

  7. If I can score Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams on disk for $16, then I’ll get it. Fun, hard (in a good way) platformer.

  8. It seems like their releasing a new Assassin’s Creed game every week. That’s a good way to kill your brand.

  9. Firewatch has the potential to be great. Just waiting for review before I commit.

  10. Finally, a site that shows me a little respect. SJWs call it “objectification” those neckbeard pansies.

  11. XCOM 2 this week, all week. One of my favorite games of the last decade. Nothing feels worse than losing a character after he or she kicked and saved your ass for a few missions.

  12. I’m thinking about getting Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, but what’s better the PC version or the console one?

  13. Sideboob is pretty hot.
