New Game Releases: The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel

With releases like Turok, Fantavision, and a pair of Bubsy games, you’d be forgiven for thinking you might have accidentally clicked on a schedule of new game releases from the nineties. But barring the industry’s tendency to re-release antiquated old games at escalated prices, no mistake has been made. On the upside, there’s still a few notable new diversions with The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel arriving for two platforms.

Robert’s Pick: Sure, The Legend of Heroes didn’t make a good first impression, with the Gagharv Trilogy released out of order and given a halfass localization. But with the first two Kiseki games, Nihon Falcom turned the corner, producing one of my favorite role-playing games in recent memory. While this week’s release of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel isn’t directly connected to the Trails in the Sky titles, some hands-on playtime confirmed the quality of the battle system and visuals.

  1. I played The Revenges of Montezuma 4 last week after eating at Chipotle.

9/10 Would play again to lose weight.

  2. Fantavision is the game that exactly 5 people asked for. I hope you’re happy, I just want Gungrave to be made available.

  3. Sony,

All I want for Christmas is to play Suikoden III on the PS4. Oh, and some VR soon.

    Love,

    Spooky.

  4. Since we’re giving our PS2 BC Xmas wishes, I’ll ask for “Black” which is still one of the best FPS games I ever played. After that all FPS weapons felt underpowered.

    • Hell Yeah!!! Black was such a kick ass game for it’s time. Enemies were dumb as stumps if you moved around a lot, but it didn’t matter because of all the fantastic gun play. I loved how you could destroy parts of the environment.

Am I the only one who fails to see the humor in Hatoful Boyfriend?

  5. Japanese girls is skirts get your pick of the week? How unlikely?

  6. The first two Bubsy games were bad. And $4 is more than reasonable. Turok on the other hand is nuts.

  7. Aviary Attorney looks like Hatoful meets Pheonix Wright, which is kind of cool.

  8. I have Trails of Cold Steel preordered. Looking forward to it.

  9. I really like Never Alone, but it wasn’t worth the $15 I paid for is. More of a $5 2.5 hour game.

  10. I have the SE of Cold Steel paid off. My last Christmas purchase.

  11. Hate on busy all you want. I’m having fun with it.

  12. Cold Steel looks cool. Yes, that was intentional.
