New Game Releases: January 11th-17th, 2018

With fifteen titles heading to the Switch, Nintendo’s hybrid once again leads the pack of new game releases. Elsewhere, Polyknight’s open-world flying exploration title descends on a multitude of systems. Hopefully, no one buys InnerSpace thinking it’s the adaption to 1987 movie, where Dennis Quaid plays a miniaturized fighter pilot accidently injected into Martin Short’s body.

Robert’s Pick: Another week, another tantalizing Touhou Project game. This time out it’s The Disappearing of Gensokyo, developed by Chinese doujin circle, MyACG Studio. Billed as a “Danmaku-Shooting-ARPG”, Gensokyo favors the former, as a cast of playable character tackle a multitude of enemies and some really challenging bosses. It’s certainly not perfect- small imperfections are numerous, and the current English localization is sketchy. But given the developers’ commitment, and the affordable price, it’s would be difficult not to recommend this underpublicized gem.

  1. Looking at Art of Fighting 2. I was never good at NeoGeo fighters except for SamSho, but I did like them. Starting to learn what I missed.

  2. You need to stop picking these Touhou games if you’re not reviewing them!

  3. Too bad it’s Furi and not Yuri on Switch….

  4. Wasn’t Rocket League for Switch already released?
